Maryland, Purdue and Michigan State Earn Weekly Men’s Basketball Honors

Terrapins’ Melo Trimble and Boilermakers’ Caleb Swanigan named Co-Players of the Week; Spartans’ Miles Bridges earns Freshman of the Week honors

Co-Players of the Week

Melo Trimble, Maryland

G – Jr. – 6-3 – Upper Marlboro, Md. – Bishop O’Connell

  • Averaged 23.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in leading the Terrapins to three wins over Stony Brook, Richmond and Kansas State
  • Earned Most Valuable Player honors at the Barclays Classic as the Terps claimed the team title
  • Shot 51.2 percent (20-of-39) from the field, 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from three-point range and 77.8 percent (21-of-27) from the free throw line
  • Scored 21 points, pulled down five rebounds, swiped three steals and handed out a pair of assists against Stony Brook
  • Matched his career-high with 31 points, including 21 points in the second half, to go along with four rebounds and two steals in the overtime win versus Richmond
  • Scored 18 points, including the game-winning layup with 6.6 seconds remaining, to secure the Terrapins’ 69-68 win over Kansas State in the Barclays Classic championship game
  • Earns his third career Big Ten Player of the Week honor

Caleb Swanigan, Purdue

F – So. – 6-9 – Fort Wayne, Ind. – Homestead

  • Averaged 17.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, recording three double-doubles, in leading the Boilermakers to three victories over Utah State, Auburn and NJIT
  • Earned Most Valuable Player honors at the Cancun Challenge as the Boilermakers earned the team title
  • Shot 65.2 percent (15-of-23) from the field, 75.0 percent (3-of-4) from three-point range and 90.0 percent (18-of-20) from the free throw line
  • Scored 15 points, including an 8-of-9 performance from the free throw line, and pulled down 10 rebounds against Utah State
  • Scored 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, corralled 10 rebounds and handed out two assists versus Auburn
  • Poured in 22 points, including a 6-of-6 effort from the floor and 10-of-10 output from the free throw line, pulled down 13 rebounds and tallied three assists against NJIT
  • Earns his first Big Ten Player of the Week honor

Freshman of the Week

Miles Bridges, Michigan State

G/F – 6-7 – Flint, Mich. – Huntington Prep

  • Averaged 19.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game in Michigan State’s wins over St. John’s and Wichita State, and setback versus nationally-ranked Baylor
  • Scored 22 points, corralled a season-high 15 rebounds and added three assists and a block against St. John’s in the opening round of the Battle 4 Atlantis
  • Chipped in 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting, pulled down five rebounds and recorded three blocks versus Baylor
  • Scored 21 points, collected four rebounds and tallied a pair of blocks in 23 minutes against Wichita State, as the Spartans secured a third-place finish in the Battle 4 Atlantis
  • Earns his second Freshman of the Week honor
