Indiana and Maryland Earn Weekly Women’s Basketball Awards

Indiana’s Jaelynn Penn and Maryland’s Kaila Charles are this week’s honorees

 

Player of the Week

Kaila Charles, Maryland

G – So. – Glenn Dale, Md. – Riverdale Baptist

• Averaged 24.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game with a .760 field-goal percentage last week while leading No. 14/13 Maryland to a pair of Big Ten victories

• Scored a career-high 32 points on 12-of-16 shooting and added seven rebounds and three blocks in the Terrapins’ win over No. 12/14 Ohio State on Jan. 22

• Contributed 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting in Maryland’s victory at Northwestern last Thursday

• Earns her first career Player of the Week honor

Big Ten Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll

Alex Wittinger, Jr., F, ILL: Averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.5 blocks per game last week, including the second triple-double in school history with 18 points, 10 rebounds and a school-record 11 blocks (one off the Big Ten record) last Tuesday at Penn State

Megan Gustafson, Jr., F/C, IOWA: Registered 27.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game with a .576 field goal percentage last week as No. RV/25 Iowa split two Big Ten games

Katelynn Flaherty, Sr., G, MICH: Averaged 26.5 points and 6.0 assists per game with a .543 field goal percentage and .692 three-point percentage to spark No. 16 Michigan to two conference wins

 

Freshman of the Week

Jaelynn Penn, Indiana

G – Louisville, Ky. – Butler

• Averaged 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game with a .462 field goal percentage during Indiana’s two Big Ten wins last week

• Scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed four rebounds in the Hoosiers’ victory over Rutgers last Saturday

• Converted all 10 of her free throws last week, including 6-of-6 against Rutgers

• Earns her second career Freshman of the Week honor and second in as many weeks
