Hoosiers Eek Out Win In Two Overtimes for Bucket

Talk about a game, well the Indiana Hoosiers and the Purdue Boilermakers put on a heck of a show Saturday afternoon in a rain soaked Ross Ade Stadium.

Indiana and Purdue would go toe to toe in the second half as Indiana got out to a quick lead as Peyton Ramsey connected with Whop Philyor from eight yards out to give the Hoosiers a quick seven, zero lead.

After another Ramsey score, this time from a yard out, the Hoosiers would bolt out to a 14 to zero spread.

Purdue would get on the board with a J D Dellinger 20 yard field goal in a swirling wind to close the gap to 11 points.

Purdue would close it even closer when Brycen Hopkins pulled in a 72 yard strike from Boiler quarterback Aidan O’Connell.

Indiana would answer when Avon freshman Sampson James scored from three yards out to lead 21 and 10 win over Purdue at the half.

The second half opened with Indiana seeming on the verge of pulling away and hiding after a Philyor touchdown catch of 37 yards from Ramsey to show the Hoosiers up 28 to 10.

This about the time Boiler Zander Horvath from Mishawaka, Indiana put his mark on the game when he bolted big yardage and a pair of one yard runs to close the gap to 28 to 23.

Charles Campbell, a redshirt freshman kicker from Jackson, Tennessee would come in, after three misses from Logan Justus and calmly send the ball through the uprights  from 41 yards out to give the Hoosiers a 31-24 lead.

Many field goals were missed due to a incredible swirling wind in Ross Ade Stadium.

Aidan O’Connell would hit Warren Central freshman receiver David Bell with a perfectly thrown ball to close the gap to two points.

The Boilers would go for a two point conversion and collect it when O’Connell hit Hopkins to tie the game at 31 a piece.

Indiana would take the lead in the first overtime when Ramsey hit Westbrook from 14.

O’Connell would tie the game with a Hopkins touchdown from six yards out to tie the game at 38 a piece.

The second overtime saw the Boilers hit the scoreboard first when Dellinger hit from 34 yards out to give the Boilers their first lead of the game at 41 to 38.

Now it’s Indiana’s turn and what did they do after Ramsey passed to Hendershot to take it to the one, Ramsey calmly took the rock, followed Simon Stepaniak and scored from a yard out to give the Hoosiers the Old Oaken Bucket and their eighth win of the season.

Both teams played with heart and desire and left it on the field in front of 55, 338 football fans.

Peyton Ramsey would hit on 23 passes of 39 attempts for 337 yards and three touchdowns for the Hoosiers.

Sampson James rushed 22 times for 118 yards while Ramsey rushed for 82 yards in 19 rushes.

Whop Philyor caught eight passes for 138 yards and two scores while Westbrook would snab five passes for another 88 yards while Hendershot and Miles Marshall gained 49 yards.

For Purdue, Aidan O’Connell would throw 49 times connecting on 28 of those throws for 408 yards.

Zander Horvath would tote the rock 23 times for 170 yards and two scores while David Bell caught nine passes for 136 yards, Brycen Hopkins would collect eight throws for another 142 and Jackson Anthrop 62 yards on four grabs.
