Ohio State Beats Perfect Game Plan
INDIANAPOLIS: by Steven Stremming
The Ohio State Buckeyes eeked out a narrow win over Minnesota in the opening game of the Semi-Finals at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse.
Kelsey Mitchell was well, Kelsey Mitchell hitting big shots down the stretch and forcing the Gophers into defending inside the paint. When Mitchell was collected up on defense she hit Sierra Calhoun who buried two consecutive three pointers.
But the key plays in this game were two consecutive offensive rebounds that kept Minnesota at bay in the final seconds.
Mavunga topped everyone on the floor with 21 rebounds.
Minnesota was once led again by 5’10 Senior Carlie Wagner who poured in 26 points with seven rebounds and a perfect five of five from the line. Fellow Minnesotan (Minneapolis) Kenisha Bell scored a team high 27 points including a game high 10 assists and nine rebounds. Virginia Beach, Virginia Sophomore Gadiva Hubbard added 20 points in support.
Mitchell led Ohio State with 30 points and nine assists, Mavunga added 26 and Calhoun added 14.
Alexa Hart scored eight, Linnae Harper and Makayla Waterman added six points a piece.
