Sessoms to Participate in 2020-21 Season After Receiving NCAA Waiver

Philadelphia product was 2019-20 America East scoring champion and two-time all-conference pick

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State junior guard Sam Sessoms was approved for an NCAA waiver and will participate in the 2020-21 season. The 6-0, 187-lb guard from Philadelphia was the America East Rookie of the Year as a freshman and two-time all-conference pick at Binghamton. Sessoms joined the Nittany Lions roster in spring 2020 after playing his first two seasons at Binghamton.

“Coming home was important to me and now being able to play the game I love, the game that has given me so much, is a blessing for me during a year filled with so much uncertainty,” said Sessoms.

Sessoms averaged 19.4 points per game to lead all scorers in the America East Conference in 2019-20 and also led the Bearcats in assists and steals each of the last two seasons. He owns Binghamton records for single-game scoring, field goals and 30-plus point scoring games. Sessoms became the fastest to reach the 1,000-career point scoring mark at Binghamton, reaching the milestone in only 57 games.

A two-time all-state selection and first-team honoree, Sessoms led The Shipley School to the league championship game in back-to-back seasons and 68 victories during his career. He scored a school-record 2,091 points and was one of the top scorers in Philadelphia with a 28.8 points-per-game average as a senior and 23.0 ppg as a junior.
