Jackson-Davis headlines IBCA/Subway Players of the Week
Bennett, Craig join Center Grove senior as honorees after strong semi-state outings
Trayce Jackson-Davis produced a double-double in keeping his team in a Class 4A semi-state contest until the end, and the Center Grove senior paces the recipients in this week’s IBCA/Subway Player of the Week program.
Crispus Attucks senior Harold Bennett and Culver Academy junior Deontae Craig join Jackson-Davis as honorees for the week of March 11-16 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
Craig is the winner for District 1. Bennett collected honors for District 2. Jackson-Davis claimed accolades for District 3.
The 6-9 Davis poured in 34 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Center Grove fought to the finish before falling 67-61 to Ben Davis in a Class 4A semi-state at Washington. The Indiana University recruit added two assists, one steal and three blocked shots while sinking 13-of-21 field goals and 8-of-15 free throws as the Trojans closed their season at 21-9.
Bennett totaled 30 points with three rebounds, one assist and one steal as Crispus Attucks dropped a 72-69 decision to Silver Creek in the Class 3A semi-state at Seymour. The 6-0 guard converted 11-of-31 shots from the field, including 5-of-13 3-pointers, plus 3-of-5 free throws as the Tigers completed their season at 20-9.
The 6-4 Craig tallied 21 points – including 15 points in the second half – with seven rebounds, two assists and one steal to lead Culver Academy to a 57-44 triumph over Marion in the Class 3A semi-state at Elkhart. Craig hit 8-of-13 field goals and 5-of-9 free throws as the Eagles (24-3) earned a spot in the 3A State Finals against Silver Creek (24-3).
This is the 11th season for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week program and the seventh season it is presented by Subway Restaurants of Indiana, a banner sponsor of the IBCA. Subway, in its eighth season as an IBCA sponsor, encourages athletes to “train hard and eat fresh.”
Winners in the Player of the Week generally are chosen each week from each of the IHSAA’s three districts. Boys’ winners will be chosen for one more week. The girls’ season is complete.
