Terps Shake Off Rust, Then Spartans

Maryland overwhelmed Michigan State in Paint

Maryland came into the BiG Ten Women’s Basketball Conference Championships at Banker’s Life Field House as the number one seed and all the pressure that goes along with it.

Michigan State came in as the number nine seed and the dispatcher of the eighth seeded Northwestern.

Brenda Freese’s team went right to work, without a shoot out and pounded the ball inside to Harve de Grace, Maryland junior Stephanie Jones and Brooklyn, New York senior Brianna Fraser.

Once that was set the Terps then added Glenn Dale, Maryland Junior Kaila Charles to the mix.

Blair Watson, a 6′ Junior from New Jersey played a more than adequate game herself as she hit four of six shots from the field, including three of four from behind the arc for eleven points and four boards.

Maryland dominated the third period 25 to 10 behind Charles as the Terps put this one away early.

Charles led the Terps with 21 points and five assists while Jones added 14 and a team and game high 11 boards and Watson’s ten.

Bedford North Lawrence’s Senior Jenna Allen led the Spartans in her last game at Banker’s Life with 19 points and seven boards.

Michigan State is eliminated and falls to 20 and 11 while Maryland moves on to the semi-finals to face either Cindrella Wisconsin or the fourth seeded Michigan Wolverines.
