#2 Ducks Score Early and Late in shut out win at Purdue

Excel H Sports number #2 ranked Oregon Ducks traveled to West Lafayette, Indiana for a Friday night contest against the homestanding Purdue Boilermakers.

The Ducks entered the game having just came off a victory at home against the Ohio State Buckeyes in a thrilling game.

Oregon coming off a short week answered the bell early when Nashville, Tennessee’s Jordan James, 5’10, Junior dashed in from eight yards and a one-yard scamper in the first quarter to put the Ducks up to stay fourteen to nothing. Atticus Sappington, the Oregon State transfer from Portland, Oregon Central Catholic High School added both extra points.

Duck Head Coach Dan Lanning’s team would put another touchdown when 5’10, Senior Tez Johnson, Pinson, Alabama and Troy transfer would score after a 12-yeard pass from 5’11, Senior, Dillon Gabirel, a Central Florida/Oklahoma transfer at the 11:42 mark in the second quarter to put the Ducks up 21 to 0 at the half.

The third quarter was a stand=off with neither team scoring but Purdue showing some life.

Saint Louis, Missouri and Illinois senior transfer Reggie Love III led the Boilers on the ground with quick strikes eating up yardage. Love ended his night with 93 yards on eleven carries.

Clarkston, Michigan, red-shirt freshman Ryan Browne rushed the ball and passed the ball as the Boilers settled down a bit. For the game Browne would rush for 48 yards on fourteen carries as the Ducks put pressure on him all night long. Browne would end up his night with 93 passing yards on nine of nineteen from his quarterback spot.

Boonville, Indiana Junior, Devin Mockabee would add 46 yards on the ground with ten carries in his final stats.

Max Klare led the Boiler air game with thirty-two yards on three receptions.

The final stanza was all Oregon as the Ducks would score two more scores and leave Ross Aide stadium with a convincing 35 to 0 score.

The final two scores were produced by Western Kentucky transfer, Noah Whittington from Fort Valley, Georgia on an eight-yard reception from Gabriel and Missouri State transfer, Jay Harris’ twelve-yard run.

Oregon sits atop the BiG in their first year at five and zero, while Penn State and yes, Indiana is a half game back going into Saturday’s clashes.

For the game Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, considered to be one of the top two quarterbacks in the country, along with Texas’ Quin Ewers completed 21 of 25 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns.

James led the rushing attack with 50 yards on ten carries while Whittingham accounted for 42 yards on nine carries.

The receiving corps was led by Texas A & M transfer, Memphis, Tennessee native, 6′, Junior Evan Stewart with 96 yards on four receptions. Tez Johnson added 66 yards on seven catches, Kenyon Sadiq added 58 yards on two grabs.

The Oregon Ducks defense is efficient as two of the top sophomores in the country showed why as both Tetum Tuioti, 6’3, 255 outside linebacker from Laie, Hawaii and Matayo Uliagalelei, 6’5, 270 outside linebacker from Bellflower, California. Matayo is D.J’s younger brother.

Between them they totaled 11 tackles led by Tuioti’s eight total tackles.

Bryce Boettcher added five while the trio of Devon Jackson, Brandon Johnson and Jeff Bassa were credited with four total tackles.

The Boiler defense was led by West Lafayette, Indiana’s, Junior Yanni Karlaftis with eight total tackles to be joined by Junior Kyndrich Breedloe, a transfer from Colorado’s program.

Oregon moves on to host Illinois in Eugene while Purdue goes into the bye week with questions.
