Excel H Sports SPOTLIGHT Episode Five

Excel H Sports SPOTLIGHT is highlighting BEYOND THE POWER 4 and FCS individual accomplishments in their team setting.

1)   In the Western Kentucky‘s win over Delaware 27 to 24, QB Maverick McIvor was 23 of 31 for 230 yards and a touchdown while WR’s Matthew Henry caught four passes for 99 yards and K D Hutchinson caught nine passes for 58 yards and Jaylen Wester and Miller Malone combined for 18 total tackles on defense.

2) South Florida dominated Charlotte 54 to 26 behind QB Bryum Brown passed for 211 yards on 19 of 34 attempts and four touchdowns and rushed 17 times for 162 yards and another score. RB NyKahi Davenport rushed fifteen times for 79 yards and a score while fellow running back Sam Franklin carried 14 times for another 76 yards. WR Jeremiah Koger caught four passes for 75 yards and a score, and the defense was led by Jhayln Shuler‘s ten total tackles.

3) San Diego State rolled over Colorado State 45 to 24 behind QB Jayden Denegal completed 13 of 16 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns while RB Byron Caldwell, Jr. rushed fifteen times for 129 yards and a score, and teammate Lucky Sutton rushed 21 times for 113 yards. Receiver Jordan Napier caught seven passes for 153 yards and a score. Colorado State‘s Owen Long led the Ram defense with 16 total tackles with five being solos.

4) In a battle of the armed forces teams Navy downed the Air Force Academy 34 to 31 behind QB Blake Horvath‘s 20 of 26 passing attempts for 339 yards and three touchdowns while rushing another 17 times for 130 yards and a score. WR Eli Heidenreich caught eight passes for 243 yards and three TD’s and defensively, Luke Pirris totaled 12 tackles.

5) The Ball State Cardinals caught lightning in a bottle when QB Kiael Kelly hit WR Qian Magwood with a 43-yard score in the waning moments of the game, as the Cardinals beat the Bobcats of Ohio University 20 to 14. Two big goal line stands in the first quarter by Ball State set the tone for a competitive game. QB Kelly threw for 185 yards and that touchdown on 17 of 33 passing attempts. Kelly also rushed for 96 yards and a score on 21 carries while on defense, Nathan Voorhis stood tall as he totaled eight tackles with five being solo and 3 1/2 sacks moving him to first in the nation in FBS football on the season.

6) Brown topped Rhode Island 28 to 21 behind QB James Murphy‘s 201 yards and two scores on 20 of 27 attempts while RB Matt Childs rushed 22 times for 64 yards and two more scores. WR Ty Pezza caught six passes for 93 yards and a score. Rhode Island QB Devin Farrell threw for 353 yards on 30 of 44 passing attempts and three scores.

7) Buffalo stopped Eastern Michigan in a tight one 31 to 30. Buffalo QB Ta’Quan Roberson was 19 of 38 in passing attempts for 272 yards and three scores while RB Ai-Jay Henderson rushed 16 times for 81 yards and WR Victor Snow was on the receiving end of six passes for 136 yards and two scores. Red Murdock, Miles Greer and Saveon Brown totaled 17, 15 and 10 total tackles a piece.

8) Bucknell survived Richmond 33 to 28 behind QB Ralph Rucker IV 24 of 34 afternoon for 284  yards and a score. Receiver Sam Milligan caught eleven passes for 133 yards while fellow receiver Nate Anderson caught six passes for 66 yards and a score.

9) Tennesse Tech won easily over Western Illinois 66 to 20 behind QB Kekoa Visperas as he threw for 358 yards on 24 of 38 attempts and four scores and rushed for 73 yards on eight carries. WR Noah Robinson caught seven passes for 126 yards and three touchdowns in the winning effort.

10)  Western Carolina downed Wofford 23 to 21 but the big news in this game was record setting performances by Western’s QB Taron Dickens as he completed 53 of 56 passes for 378 yards. Dickens set the FCS record with an amazing 46 completed passes in succession and his completion percentage was also a history making event as he was 94.6% completion success ratio.

11) Penn downed Dartmouth 36 to 24 behind QB Liam O’Brien‘s 147 yards of passing and 99 yards of rushing while accounting for four touchdowns.

12) Maine beat Bryant 34 to 14 behind QB Carter Peevy‘s 23 of 36 passing for 338 yards and three scores with WR’s Scott Woods, five for 103 yards and two TD’s, Nick Laughlin, five for 92 yards and a score and Molayo Irefin‘s five catches for 71 yards.

13) South Dakota beat Murray State 49 to 24 behind RB L J Phillips 244 yards on 24 carries and four touchdowns while WR Larenzo Fenner caught three passes 108 yards and a score.

14) Alabama State rolled up 52 points on their way to a win over Bethune Cookman. RB Jahbari Kuykendoll carried the rock eight times for 106 yards fellow running back Andrew Body carried seven times for 95 more. WR Jalen Jones was on the end of four passes for 63 yards and 1 score while Bethune Cookman QB Timmy McClain threw for 266 yards on 25 of 34 passing attempts and two scores. RB Ali Scott, Jr. rushed for 100 yards on 15 carries and WR’s Maleek Huggins caught seven passes for 132 yards and two scores while fellow receiver Javon Ross brought in nine passes for 137 yards and a score.

15) U C Davis toppled Cal Poly 34 to 27 behind QB Caden Pinnick‘s 313 yards on 21 of 26 passing. He also rushed for another 60 on the ground while WR’s Stacy Dobbins, Ian Simpson and Zach Jones caught nine total passes for 204 combined yards.
