Excel H Sports SPOTLIGHT Episode XI

Excel H Sports SPOTLIGHT is highlighting BEYOND THE POWER 4 and FCS individual accomplishments in their team setting. Occasionally, we will add a FBS individual in a team setting.

This week’s SPOTLIGHT features CUSA, Sun Belt, Mountain West, MEAC, CAA, Patriot, Ivy, NEC, Pioneer and the Big Sky.

1)  Missouri State Bears 7-3 overall, 5-1 CUSA downed Texas El Paso 2-8 overall and 1-5 CUSA, 38 to 24 behind Bear QB Jacob Clark 30/39 for 330 yards and four touchdowns along with RB Shomari Lawrence carried the ball 25 times for 109 yards and one touchdown and WR Jmariyae Robinson caught seven passes for 88 yards. On defense, D J Wesolak recorded 2 1/2 sacks. Texas El Paso QB Skyler Looklear carried the ball 16 times for 36 yards and two scores and WR Eric Willis III caught five passes for 45 yards and on defense, Micah Davey recorded 12 total tackles, eight solo tackles.

2) South Alabama 3-7 overall, 2-4 Sun Belt downed Louisiana Monroe 3-7 overall, 1-5 in the Sun Belt, 26 to 14 behind QB Bishop Davenport 17/23 passing for 162 yards along with RB’s Kentrel Bullock 20 carries for 82 yards and two scores along with Keenan Phillips 20 carries for 65 yards and Davenport rushing for 50 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns. WR Anthony Eagen caught five passes for 83 yards.

3) The Texas State Bobcats, 4-6 overall, 1-5 Sun Belt downed the Eagles of Southern Mississippi 7-3 overall, 5-1 in the Sun Belt behind QB Brad Jackson 14/17 passing for 192 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 49 yards and two more scores on 16 carries, RB Lincoln Pare carried the ball 21 times for 118 yards and a touchdown along with Greg Burrell, 11 carries for 95 yards. WR Chris Dawn, Jr. five receptions for 117 yards and crossing the goal line once. On defense, Terrance Cooks II claimed 12 total tackles with four being solo tackles. Southern Mississippi was led by WR Elijah Metcalf’s 10 receptions for 116 yards and a TD. On defense, Chris Jones, Michael Montgomery and Ian Foster totaled 35 total tackles for the Golden Eagles.

4) Georgia Southern Eagles 5-5, 3-3 Sun Belt downed Coastal Carolina 6-4, 5-2 Sun Belt was led by QB J C French IV 22/33 for 264 yards and two scores along with a interception, RB O J Arnold 21 carries for 267 yards and two touchdowns and WR Camden Brown five catches for 133 yards and three scores. On defense, Ayden Jackson totaled eight tackles. Coastal Carolina was led by WR Jamison Tucker four receptions for 107 yards and a score.

5) Washington State Cougars 5-5 overall beat back Louisiana Tech 5-5 overall in a 28 to 3 victory. Leading the WSU charge was led by QB Zevi Eckhaus 17/25 for 146 yards and a score, Eckhaus rushed 11 times for another 56 yards and two more scores. RB Kirby Vorhees 16 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown with WR Joshua Meredith five receptions for 70 yards and crossing the goal line once.

6) The Aztecs of San Diego State 8-2 overall, 5-1 Mountain West kept up their hunt for a MW Conference championship with a 17 to 7 win over Boise State Broncos, 6-4 overall, 4-2 MW behind RB Lucky Sutton, who carried the ball 25 times for 150 yards along with Christian Washington‘s 98 yards rushing. On defense, Owen Chambliss and Mister Williams combined 16 total tackles.

7) The Bulldogs of South Carolina State 8-3 overall, 4-0 MEAC edged the Eagles of North Carolina Central 7-4 overall, 2-2 MEAC behind QB William Atkins IV 24 of 36 passing attempts for 314 yards good for three touchdowns. North Carolina Central was led by RB Chris Mosley who rushed for 105 yards on 21 carries.

8) The Hawks of Monmouth 9-2 overall, 6-1 CAA beat North Carolina A & T 2-9 overall, 2-4 CAA, 63 to 7 behind QB Frankie Weaver 19 of 27 passing attempts for a whopping 428 yards and six touchdowns and RB Rodney Nelson 23 carries for 163 yards and three scores along with WR T J Speight five receptions for 162 yards and Maxwell James three receptions for 102 yards and both recording touchdowns.

9) The Drake Bulldogs 7-3 overall, 6-1 Pioneer, clinched the Pioneer Title with a close 14 to 6 victory over the Flyers of Dayton 6-4 overall, 4-3 Pioneer. Drake RB Nick Herman 15 carries for 153 yards and a score along with fellow RB Luke Woodson’s 50 yards. Dayton was led by RB Gavin Lochow‘s 17 carries for 101 yards.

10) The Crusaders of Holy Cross 2-9 overall, 2-4 Patriot downed the Bison of Bucknell 5-6 overall, 2-4 Patriot was led by RB’s Jayden Cleaveaux‘s 142 yards on 21 carries and Nyeoti Punni’s 131 yards and two scores. Bucknell was led by WR Sam Milligan‘s 154 yards on only five receptions and two scores.

11) In Ivy League play the Brown Bears, 4-5 overall, 1-4 IVY edged Columbia 1-8 overall, 0-6 IVY behind QB James Murphy‘s 340 yards passing on 31 of 43 passing attempts and four touchdowns along with WR Trevor Foley’s six catches for 140 yards. Columbia was led by RB Matthew Walters 127 yards on 27 carries.

12) The Dukes of Duquesne, 6-5 overall, 4-2 NEC grabbed a 38 to 33 win over Central Connecticut State 7-4 overall, 5-1 NEC behind RB Taj Butts 254 yards on the ground in 14 carries and three scores. Central Connecticut was led by QB Brady Olson 28/45 passing attempts for 423 yards and four scores along with RB Elijah Howard‘s 108 rushing yards and WR’s Peter Cleary 111 receiving yards on five catches and Michael Trovorelli’s 86 yards and six receptions for two touchdowns.

13) The Rams of Rhode Island 9-2 overall, 7-0 CAA downed the Bears of Maine 6-5 overall, 5-2 CAA behind RB’s Antwain Littlejohn Jr. 21 carries for 202 yards and two touchdowns and Brendon Barrow’s 65 yards on seven carries and four touchdowns combined. WR Marquis Buchanan caught six passes for 138 yards and a score. Maine was led by QB Carter Peavy 21/34 passing attempts for 278 yards and a score along with WR Scott Woods five receptions for 114 yards and a score.

14) Northern Arizona 7-4 overall, 4-3 Big Sky edged Cal Poly 3-8 overall, 1-6 Big Sky by the score of 35 to 27 behind QB Ty Pennington. Lumberjack QB Pennington threw for 356 yards on 22 of 29 passing attempts and four scores. RB Seth Cromwell rushed for 85 yards on 16 carries and WR Kolbe Katsis caught six passes for 148 yards and three scores. Cal Poly Mustangs was led by WR Fidel Tau Pitts 138 yards and two scores.

15) Montana State 9-2 overall, 7-0 Big Sky earned a 38 to 17 win over U C Davis 7-3 overall, 5-2 Big Sky behind QB Justin Lamson 10 of 18 passing attempts for 144 yards and eleven carries for 97 yards and three total tackles and RB Julius Davis carried the ball eleven times for 70 yards. UC Davis was led by QB Caden Pinnick, who threw for 234 yards on 22 of 36 attempts for two scores and WR Samuel Gbatu Jr. ten receptions for 80 yards and a score.
