Fighting Irish Smother Boilermakers 49-10

The Irish came into Ross-Ade Stadium, home of the Purdue Boilermakers football team ranked #2 in our Excel H Sports College Overall rankings.

Notre Dame did not disappoint as they scored 35 unanswered points to lead the halfway mark, 35 to 0 before a crowd of over 55,000 attendees.

The Irish scored in a variety of ways, consisting of mainly the duo of C J Carr, Quarterback and elite running back Aneyas Williams. Carr opened up the scoring with a 14-yard pass to Micah Gilbert to put the Irish up seven to nothing.  Carr then would hand the ball off to Williams as he scampered into the end zone from 22 yards out, making the Irish go up two scores.

Carr would continue to up the score with a 1-yard touchdown run before Drayk Bowen, a former Indiana Mr. Football award winner would scoop up a Purdue fumble and score from 28 yards out, marking Bowen’s first Irish touchdown of his stellar career.

The scoring would continue with Carr to Nolan James, Jr. for two yards and a two-yard pass to Cooper Flanagan before departing the game.

Noah Grubbs would enter the game for the Irish and complete two of four passes for 30 yards and a score.

Purdue would score from 47 yards on a Jacobo Echeverria Lozano field goal and a late touchdown from Evans Chubb to make the final score 49 to 10.

Barry Odom’s Purdue squad bounce back into action next Saturday to take on the Illini.

While to many, progress is slow, but to those who have been observing Odom’s team, they never had a lack of effort in today’s game. Two years ago, in Odom’s first year that squad would have never continue to give effort. Progress is being made.

For the Irish, C J Carr was 14/22 for 237 yards, three touchdowns and an interception and a scoring touchdown on the ground. Aneyas Williams rushed 14 times for 80 yards and a score, Jonza Walters rushed seven times for 61 yards and Nolan James, Jr. rushed seven times for 28 yards.

Micah Gilbert brought in two passes for 83 yards and a score, Jordan Faison four receptions for 66 yards, Jaden Greathouse two catches for 36 yards, Cooper Flanagan two catches for 29 yards and Jerome Bettis, Jr. one reception for 26 yards.

Top tacklers for the Irish were Adon Shuler with seven, Jaylen Sneed six, Joey O’Brien five and Bryce Young with four.

Purdue was led by Quarterback Ryan Browne’s 16 of 28 for 111 yards and backup quarterback Evans Chubb seven of nine for 67 yards and a touchdown throw with six seconds remaining the game.

Fame Ijeobi led the Boilers with 41 yards on 12 carries followed by Jar’Mar Harris three for 36 yards in the air and Asaad Waseem’s four catches for 34 yards.

Justin Denson led the Purdue defense with eight tackles and Jojo Hayden added seven.

Former Purdue kicker Spencer Porath was a perfect seven of seven in PAT’s for the Irish.
