45th IHSAA Girl’s Class State Basketball Finals

Small town basketball usually is followed and represented today, the teams were.
In the Class 1A Game a tense struggle developed from the initial tip off till the final horn sounded.
Loogootee Lions would claim the schools first championship as they downed a game Pioneer team 45 to 43.

Both teams had their good moments and not so.
Loogootee was led by Brooklynn Jones who tallied 17 points, all in the second half and Makenzie VanHoy’s 15.

Kalea Fleming added seven points in support but also added tenacious defense along with five boards and a game leading eight assists.

Pioneer was led by Hailey Cripe’s 13 points followed by Madison Blickenstaff’s 12 and Olivia Brooke’s 10 rebounds.

Loogootee shot only 29.4% percent from the field while Pioneer shot 40.5%.
Loogootee turned the ball over 13 times to Pioneer’s 20.
Pioneer out rebounded Loogootee 34 to 29 but the key to the game might have been the Lady Lions 11 offensive rebounds.
The Patricia L Roy Mental Attitude Award Winner was Chelsie Sutton of Loogootee.

The Class 2A Game was the opposite of a close game as Linton Stockton claimed their first title with a more than convincing outcome as they won handily 70 to 28.

Linton shot 51% from the floor while Frankton shot only 19.6% for the game.

Frankton’s 28 points are the lowest ever scored in a 2A Championship game breaking the record of 31 points in the class era and the single era of 29 points.

Linton was led by Junior Vanessa Shafford with 26, fellow Junior Aubrey Burgess scored 19 and Junior Haley Rose’s 13 points.

NorthWood Claims Class 3A Title behind Maddy Payne over Salem 37 to 29.

Lawrence North Captures Big School Title in 4A Win
The Big Schools (4A) hit the floor for the Championship of 4A basketball in Indiana with a bang as undefeated Northwestern entered as did last year’s runner-up in Lawrence North.
Lawrence North started out strong as they hit three pointers, mainly by Kalyn Ervin, who would finish up three out of eight and LN would end the night ten for twenty.

Ervin wasn’t the only one who bagged three point shots, Junior Jayla Smith hit five of seven for the game too.

By the half, LN was on top 31 to 22.
The second half Northwestern would make a charge behind Kendall Bostic and Madison Layden, their two top players.

Layden would drive hard to the basket while Bostic would add to the comeback with strong inside play, something LN had no answer for.
Northwestern cut the gap to 43 to 39.
The fourth quarter was simply put a knock down, drag out rumble.
Northwestern would take the lead just to see Lawrence North retake it behind Katie Davidson’s strong play.

Jayla Smith led LN with 22 points while Davidson added ten.

In support were Ervin with nine points, Kristian Young seven points but eleven assists and three steals.
Madison Layden led Northwestern with 25 points, eight rebounds and five steals while Kendall Bostic would score 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Lauren Gunn was the recipient of the Patricia L Roy Mental Attitude Winner.
