Boilermakers Draw Canes in ACC / Big Ten Challenge

 

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Another piece of the non-conference puzzle has been revealed as ESPN has announced that Purdue will travel to Miami, Fla., for the ACC / Big Ten Challenge.

 

The contest will be played Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Miami’s Watsco Center (7,972) at a time and network designation to be determined.

 

This year’s event marks the 22^nd year of the ACC / Big Ten Challenge with the ACC holding a 12-6-3 yearly advantage. However, the Big Ten has gone 6-3-2 in the last 11 Challenges.

 

The Boilermakers own a Big Ten-best record of 11-8 in the Challenge, having won nine of its last 11 games. Purdue routed defending National Champion Virginia last year in Mackey Arena, 69-40.

 

Purdue leads the series with the Hurricanes by a 3-0 advantage, having defeated Miami in Dec. 1987, on the road (110-82), in the 1999 NCAA Tournament (73-63) and in the 2011 ACC / Big Ten Challenge (76-65) in Mackey Arena.

 

The Hurricanes posted a 15-16 overall record last year with a 7-13 mark in the ACC, but return six of their top seven scorers from last season, including leading scorer, 5-foot, 7-inch guard Chris Lykes at 15.4 points per game. Senior guard Kameron McGusty also returns after averaging 12.5 points per game.

 

The Canes averaged 71.2 points per game and shot 42.9 percent from the field a year ago. They were outrebounded by 4.1 rebounds per game.
