Calderon and Hale Sign with Sycamore Basketball

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State men’s basketball program signed two high school guards on Wednesday, the first day of the national signing day period head coach Greg Lansing announced. Drew Calderon (6-4, 180, The Woodlands, Texas) and Lincoln Hale (6-4, 185, Linton, Ind.) will join the Sycamores as freshmen for the 2021-22 season.

 

Calderon was First Team All-District 15-6A and Second Team All-Montgomery County selection following his standout junior season at The Woodlands College Park High School. He averaged 13.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 44 percent from 3-point range.

Calderon and the Cavaliers concluded their season with a 22-11 overall record, including a second-place finish in the district with a 12-4 mark. Calderon has also excelled in the classroom after being named to the All-Academic Team his junior season.

 

“We certainly love going into Texas to recruit. We heard great things about Drew from some of the same coaches that worked with and knew Julian (Larry) well. Two things we always heard were how strong his work ethic was and how much potential Drew has,” Lansing noted. “The Calderon’s are a wonderful family and the recruiting with them went very well, and quickly during the pandemic. We are excited for Drew and his family to join our basketball family.”

Hale helped lead Linton-Stockton High School to a 23-2 overall record and a sectional championship in 2019-20. He was named First Team All-District and Team MVP as he led the Miners with 23.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 58 percent from the field during the season.

 

Hale led Linton-Stockton to the Indiana state championship game in 2018 and has earned a bevy of individual accolades including being named a Junior Indiana All-State and small school All-State in 2019-20, and was named Greene County Player of the Year, Wabash Valley All-Tournament Team, and GCI MVP his sophomore and junior seasons. Over three seasons with the Miners, Hale has amassed a 71-11 record with the Miners, scored the most points, and recorded the most field goals in a single season while becoming Linton’s all-time leading scorer.

 

“I was a big fan of Lincoln since the first time I saw him play. He comes from a terrific community, family and has been coached as well as a high school kid can be coached,” said Lansing. “We know each other well, we know how hard he works and the type of young man we are getting. I am excited about his senior season and can’t wait to get him at Indiana State with our guys.”

 

Indiana State will begin its 2020-21 season November 25 at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida. The Sycamores will face East Carolina to kick off the tournament before taking on either Austin Peay or Omaha in the second round.
