As the old Johnny Carson comedic bit went, Carmac the Magnificent has placed 64 envelopes to his forehead, ripped the end off, blew to open the envelope, and then reveals his prognostications for the upcoming IHSAA boys basketball tournament.
The tournament draw will take place at the colossal IHSAA castle on 96th Street on Indianapolis’ far North side this Sunday February 19th. Sectional games will commence nine days hence from that day, the final day of the shortest month.
As always, my picks are made before – well before – the draw actually happens (well unless you believe all things are rigged and the state champions have already been decided – even Carmac hasn’t seen that far into the future).
So here they are – these are my picks and my picks alone. I have put percentages by each as to how confident I am with the team I have selected in each sectional with the favorite status. On several sectionals, I have included one – occasionally two – contenders in hopes of not hurting too many feelings.
My confidence in my picks is as you should expect – 100%. I think I have correctly picked all 64 champions this year (and yes, only the ones listed first in each sectional count as a win for Carmac the Magnificent).
