The Purdue Boilermakers came into the night looking to break a two-game losing streak in the B1G Ten conference race for a championship.

Purdue started out looking good as they trailed Michigan State by a deuce at halftime, trailing only 33 to 31.

In fact, the Boilers led by seven in the first half before a Spartan run that led them to the halftime buzzer.

Michigan State 12 and 3 in the B1G Ten race have now won three of their last four games and pulled to 1/2 game behind current B1G Ten conference leading Michigan Wolverines.  This sets up a battle Friday evening between the Spartans and Wolverines in Crisler Arena.

Jace Richardson led the way with 12 points on three of six shots from the field and a perfect four of four from the charity line.

Frankie Fielder scored 11 points, Jaden Akins 10 points on three of eight shots from the field and four of six from the free throw line.

Coen Carr scored ten (10) points including a tremendous dunk while Tre Holoman and Carson Cooper both scored seven points for the Spartans.

A big key in the winning effort was the 19 Spartan points on 12 Boilermaker turnovers.

Michigan leads the conference race at 12 and 2 while the Spartans stand at 12 and 3. Both Purdue and Wisconsin set two games back while UCLA and Maryland two and half games back.

Purdue was led by Trey Kaufman-Renn’s 24 points on nine of thirteen shots and three rebounds while Braden Smith struck for 17 points on seven of thirteen with eight assists and five rebounds and Fletcher Loyer added eight points on two of five from the field while grabbing five rebounds.

Cam Heide came off the Boiler bench to score six points before fouling out.

Purdue travels to Indiana this coming weekend.
