SAINT LOUIS, Mo.– Indiana State men’s basketball sophomore guard Ryan Conwell earned Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.
Conwell shined bright on the big stage in Saturday’s first game of the Indy Classic at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, scoring a career-high 27 points to lead Indiana State to victory over in-state opponent Ball State.
The sophomore guard returned to his hometown Indianapolis and played a season-high 37.5 minutes on Saturday en route to making 10 total baskets, including four three-pointers. He shot 62.5% in the second half alone, scoring 16 of his 27 points and draining all four of his three-pointers as the Sycamores held off a late Ball State challenge to take the non-conference win.
Conwell also tied for the team-high in rebounds with six and dished out a trio of assists.
He jumped to averaging the second-most points on the ISU roster at 16.4 PPG, and holds second place in the MVC in three-point percentage (42.0%), three-pointers per game (2.9), and total three-pointers made (29) – all behind conference leader and teammate Isaiah Swope leading in all categories.
