Marquette (#11 Excel H Sports) Warriors used a strong guard-oriented offense with a solid trapping defense to down Purdue (#7 Excel H Sports) Boilermakers, Tuesday night in Milwaukee, 76-58.
The main thorn in the Boilermakers night was Kam Jones, who posted a triple-double, 17 points, 13 rebounds and ten assists, the first to accomplish this feat since Dwyane Wade in 2003 for the Warriors.
Jones, Stevie Mitchell, Ben Gold, Chase Ross and David Joplin were all instrumental in harassing the Boilers all night.
In fact, Marquette stole the possession from Purdue 11 times and recorded five blocked shots.
The un-heralded Stevie Mitchell was a constant force on the hardwood, as Jones, from the tip-off to the final buzzer. Mitchell ended the game with 21 points on six of eleven from the floor and a perfect eight of eight from the line.
Chase Ross added 12 points, Ben Gold eleven points and Joplin nine.
Purdue was led by Trey Kaufmann-Renn with 16 points, on seven of ten from the field and eight boards while Fletcher Loyer added 13 points, including four of four from the charity stripe and Braden Smith added eleven points and handed out nine assists.
Cam Heide gave solid support with eight points while Caleb Furst added eight points.
