Each week during the 2024 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch list.

Maxwell Award

Player of the Week

RB – Devin Neal

Kansas

Devin Neal delivered an unforgettable performance against the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday night. Neal led the way for the Jayhawk offense with three rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown totaling 287 yards on the day. With this win, Kansas has successfully defeated three straight ranked Big12 opponents and seemingly dashed the playoff hopes of some of their rivals. Neal and the rest of the Jayhawk team look to continue this late-season surge against Baylor next week and become bowl-eligible with a win.

Bednarik Award

Player of the Week

LB – Cody Simon

Ohio State

The Maxwell Football Club is proud to honor Ohio State linebacker Cody Simon as the Bednarik Award Player of the Week for his incredible performance in the Buckeyes’ dominant win over Indiana. Simon’s ability to lead the defense and deliver impactful plays was key to Ohio State’s success. Simon recorded a team-high 10 tackles, including 4 solo and 6 assisted, showcasing his ability to swarm to the ball. He added 2.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss, totaling a devastating 23 yards lost for Indiana’s offense. To cap off his outstanding day, Simon forced a crucial fumble, further cementing his role as a game-changer for the Buckeyes. His combination of physicality, awareness, and big-play ability exemplifies what it means to be an elite defender.
