Maxwell Football Club Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week

Each week during the 2024 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch list.

Maxwell Award

Player of the Week

QB Blake Horvath

Navy

Blake Horvath was named Maxwell Player of the Week after a stellar performance in Navy’s impressive victory over Memphis. Horvath was nearly unstoppable, rushing 12 times for 211 yards and 4 touchdowns, while also delivering an efficient passing game by completing 9 of 12 throws for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns. His versatility was on full display, even contributing with a 13-yard reception to round out his all-around effort. This standout game made Horvath the first Navy quarterback since 2017 to post back-to-back games with over 100 yards rushing and 100 yards passing. His 416 yards of total offense came remarkably close to breaking the school’s single-game record, falling just 12 yards short. With such a dominant performance, Horvath has firmly solidified himself as one of the top talents in college football this season.

Bednarik Award

Player of the Week

EG Josaiah Stewart

Michigan

Josaiah Stewart had an outstanding performance in Michigan’s thrilling 27-24 victory against USC on Saturday. Stewart recorded three tackles for loss, eight pressures, two sacks, and a forced fumble against a prolific Lincoln Riley offense.

He also earned the highest PFF grade of any player in the game, signifying his tremendous impact on the outcome of the final score. Josaiah’s relentless effort on the defensive side of the ball proved pivotal down the stretch of the BIG10 opener. Stewart will look to have another dominant showing as he leads the Wolverine defense against a veteran Minnesota team this upcoming Saturday in Ann Arbor.
