Maxwell Football Club Players of the Week

Each week during the 2024 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch list.

Maxwell Award

Player of the Week

QB Quinn Ewers

Texas

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has been named the Maxwell Player of the Week for his standout performance in the Longhorns’ victory over No. 10 ranked Michigan. Ewers threw for 3 touchdowns and 246 yards, leading Texas to a crucial win on the road. His poise in the pocket and ability to deliver in high-pressure situations were instrumental in the team’s success. Ewers showcased his deep passing ability and accuracy, connecting with multiple receivers to break through Michigan’s defense. This performance further cements his reputation as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation.

Bednarik Award

Player of the Week

DB Xavier Scott

Illinois

Xavier Scott delivered an outstanding performance for Illinois in its game against Kansas on Saturday. He recorded eight solo tackles, forced one fumble, and intercepted two passes. One of the interceptions was returned for a thirty-yard touchdown and drastically swung the momentum of the game in the Fighting Illini’s favor headed into halftime. Scott is the first defensive player to generate three turnovers for his team in a single game this year. Through Scott’s tremendous defensive effort, Illinois defeated Kansas and looks to keep the winning streak alive against Central Michigan this upcoming Saturday.
