McMahon Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week 

 

The conference announced its weekly women’s basketball awards on Monday. 

   

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday. Freshman forward Cotie McMahon was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the sixth time this season following last week’s performance against Indiana and Penn State, tying Kelsey Mitchell for the most Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in program history.

 

McMahon led the Buckeyes on all areas of the floor last week, averaging 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as well as a .680 field goal percentage. Against Indiana, McMahon led the Buckeye offense with 22 points, making 9-of-13 (.692) field goal attempts and adding six rebounds, three assists and a steal. She then earned the first double-double of her collegiate career at Penn State, totaling 17 points and a career-high 11 rebounds to lead the team, also chipping in four assists. McMahon was 8-of-12 (.750) against Penn State.

 

This season, McMahon is averaging 14.1 points (19th in B1G), 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, leading the team with 10 20-point games. She is seventh in the Big Ten in field goal percentage (.518). McMahon has improved her numbers to 15.2 ppg (11th in B1G), 5.3 rpg and 2.7 apg during conference play.
