Wow, did the first game of the 47th IHSAA State Football Finals presented by the Indianapolis Colts in Lucas Oil Stadium get off to a smashing start.
Why wow? Well, that’s because the game wasn’t decided till the final minutes of the game when LCC, down a point with 3:39 to go on the clock went for a two point conversion.
LCC second year Head Coach Brian Nay had Sophomore quarterback Clark Barrett, 6’5, 207 complete a pass to 6′ Senior Reece Buche to complete a comeback over Lutheran.
Barrett would throw 45 times with 23 completions for 298 yards, Buche would haul in nine passes for 164 yards, Daniel Roach, a 5’8 Senior would catch eleven more passes for 111 yards.

Early in the game things broke the Knights way, as they shot out to a 14 to nothing first quarter lead.
Knight Senior receiver Reece Bauer pulled in a 23 yard pass and a 32 yard pass from Barrett and with Joaquin Gallo’s extra points to achieve the aforementioned score.

The Saints would come back and score back to back themselves when 5’10, Junior Blake White would complete a 41 yard strike to 5’9 Senior Jalen Elliott and a 43 yard passing completion to Logan Beard, a 6′, Senior and with Micah Mattes extra points tied the game.

The Saints would do all the scoring in the 3rd as McFadden would bull his way into the end zone from 3 yards out ,and after another Mattes extra point the Saints would lead 28 to 21 going into the final 12 minutes.

That’s when the air went out of Lucas Oil Stadium as Ky Schrader scored from a yard out to give the LCC Knights a one point deficit before the game ending excitement of a two point conversion sending the Knights to their eighth championship in nine attempts at Class A.
Lutheran was led by McFadden’s 32 carries for 162 yards while Blake White would complete 14 passes in .26 attempts for 216 yards
