WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For the second time this season, Purdue senior center Zach Edey has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week for his efforts in leading the Boilermakers to a pair of victories during the week.

Edey has now won eight Big Ten Player of the Week honors during his career, tied for the second most in a career in league history (Ohio State’s Evan Turner – 10). Edey has earned all eight of the weekly awards since the start of last season, coming in a total of 23 weeks.

He was also named the NCAA March Madness and ESPN National Player of the Week.

Edey averaged 30.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in just 30.0 minutes of action in wins over Iowa and Alabama. In the win over Iowa, he tallied 25 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks in just 24 minutes, before totaling 35 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists in a win over Alabama on Saturday, in a game played in his hometown of Toronto, Ontario. He went 21-of-30 from the field and 18-of-20 from the free throw line in the two outings.

For the season, Edey leads the country in scoring at 24.8 points per game, while adding 10.8 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.2 assists per game.

Over the last three games, Edey is averaging 31.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game, in just 32.7 minutes per contest.

He recently moved into 10th place on the school’s career scoring list (1,781 point) and he needs three rebounds to tie Terry Dischinger for second (958) on the school’s career rebounding list (Edey has 955). He ranks third in career double-doubles (46) and sixth in career blocked shots (174). He has scored in double-figures in 61 straight games, the longest streak in the country by 28 games (33 by Tristan Enaruna – Cleveland State).

He needs just 219 points, 45 rebounds and 26 blocked shots to become just the third player in NCAA history to have 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 200 blocked shots while shooting at least 60.0 percent from the field (David Robinson, Patrick Ewing).

Edey and the No. 3-ranked Boilermakers will face No. 1-ranked Arizona in Indianapolis on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET. Less than 100 tickets (mostly singles) remain for the contest.
