Louisville Bats Claim Win

The Louisville Bats came into the Wednesday afternoon tilt with the home standing Indianapolis Indians having lost the first two games of the series, 3-2 and 5-3.

The Indians were riding a three game winning streak and had improved their season mark to 23-19.

Louisville trotted out right handed starting pitcher Robert Stephenson (3-4, 3.89 ERA) to do try to break the streak on this picture perfect day at the Vic (Victory Field).

Stephenson’s day didn’t start well, as the first Tribe batter Max Moroff,  planted his fourth pitch of the outing into the right field grass for a 1-0 Tribe lead.

Stephenson managed to close down the rest of the inning.

The second inning saw the Bats score twice off of Indian starter Austin Coley (1-2, 9.00 ERA) as first baseman Peterson hit a solo home run and with Mason Williams at the plate, a throwing error by catcher Jacob Stallings allowed Josh Van Meter to score and put the Bats up 2-1.

The Bats would explode for four more runs in the fourth as pitcher Robert Stephenson, helping his own cause; blooped a single into right field scoring Williams and sending Chadwick Tromp to second.

Phillip Ervin then doubled to right scoring Tromp and sending Stephenson to third, Blake Trahan then singled to right scoring both Stephenson and Ervin putting the Bats up 6-1.

Louisville wasn’t done yet as Van Meter singled to left scoring Rosell Herrera sending Peterson into second putting the Bats up 7-1.

Josh VanMeter homered for Louisville driving in three runs to put the game out of reach at 10-2 in the ninth.

Stephenson claimed the victory evening his record at 4-4 while Coley dropped to 1-3 for the season.

The Indians go for a series clinching win at 11:05 Thursday as the Tribe send Tyler Eppler, 3-2, 3.60 ERA) against the Bats right handed pitcher Zach Neal (2-1, 6.52 ERA)

6,901 spectators filed into Victory Field for the game.
