Excel H Sports SPOTLIGHT Episode IX

Excel H Sports SPOTLIGHT is highlighting BEYOND THE POWER 4 and FCS individual accomplishments in their team setting. Occasionally, we will add a FBS individual in a team setting.

This week’s SPOTLIGHT features CUSA, Sun Belt, American, ACC, Independent, Mountain West, MAC, CAA, Pioneer, Missouri Valley and the Big Sky Conference.

1) The Missouri State Bears improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in CUSA action by defeating Florida International Panthers, 3-5 overall, 1-3 in CUSA action 28 to 21.

QB Jacob Clark 10/27 for 163 yards and two touchdowns, 10 carries for 35 yards rushing along with RB Shomari Lawrence, 14 carries for 104 yards and two scores carried the Bears to victory. WR Jmariyae Robinson caught six passes for 47 yards and two more scores while on defense, Jalen Brooks led the way with 13 total tackles and eight solos.

2) The Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina, 5-3 overall, 4-1 Sun Belt whipped past the Thundering Herd of Marshall University, 4-4 overall and 2-2 in Sun Belt play 44 to 27.

Coastal was led by QB Samari Collier 8/20 for 196 yards and two scores and 75 yards on the ground in 22 carries resulting for two touchdowns. RB Dominic Knicely carried the ball five times for 76 yards and a score while WR Malcolm Gillie recorded a touchdown and 69 reception yards. On defense, Xmarion Gordon totaled nine total tackles.

3) Texas San Antonio Roadrunners, 4-4 overall, 2-2 American ran past Tulane, 6-2 overall, 3-1 American 48 to 26.

QB Owen McCown 31/33 for 370 yards and four touchdowns led the way with efforts by RB Robert Henry 16 carries for 87 yards and WR’s David Amador 10 receptions for 113 yards and two scores along with Devin McCuin‘s eight receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns. Fellow WR Patrick Overmyer caught four passes for 68 yards and on defense, Jimmy Wyrick totaled seven tackles and five solo tackles.

4) North Carolina State Wolfpack, 5-4 overall, 2-3 ACC downed Georgia Tech 8-1 overall, 5-1 ACC was led by QB C J  Bailey, 24/32 for 340 yards and two scores along with Jayden Scott 24 carries for 196 yards and a touchdown. WR Teddy Hoffman caught three passes for 74 yards and a score along with Neal Roger caught seven passes for 72 yards. On defense, four players totaled ten total tackles each, Caden Fordham 15 total, six solo, Kenny Soares, Jr. 14 total, three solo, Asaad Brown Jr. ten total and eight solo and Cian Slone, ten total tackles with five solo tackles.

Georgia Tech was led by QB Haynes King, 25/35 for 408 yards and two scores while running for 103 yards on 20 carries and two more touchdowns.

5) Connecticut 6-3 overall downed Alabama Birmingham 3-5 overall, 38 to 19 behind QB Joey Fagnano, who passed to Skyler Bell resulting in three touchdowns. Fagnano was 23/30 for 267 yards and four total touchdowns and WR Skyler Bell eight caught passes for 149 yards and his three scores. Cam Chadwick intercepted three passes on totaled seven tackles.

6) North Texas State Green, 8-1 overall, 4-1 American downed Navy, 7-1 overall, 5-1 American was led by QB Drew Mestemaker 19/24 for 234 yards, RB Caleb Hawkins 33 carries for 197 yards and four touchdowns and on defense, Ethan Wesloski 14 total tackles, nine solos and Trey Fields 12 total tackles and seven solos.

7) New Mexico Lobos, 6-3, 3-2 Mountain West edged Nevada Las Vegas, 6-2 overall, 2-2 Mountain West 40 to 35 behind QB Jack Layne 17/22 for 342 and three scores, RB James Laubstein‘s eight carries for 99 yards and WR’s Keagan Johnson six receptions/158 yards, one touchdown and Damon Bankston five catches/122 yards andtwo scores. On defense, Jaxton Eck thirteen total, Frankie Edwards, 12 total tackles and Jon Johnson‘ s 10 total tackles. UNLV was led by QB Anthony Colondrea’s 36/46 for 382 yards and three scores.

8) Western Michigan, 5-4 overall, 4-1 MAC downed instate rival Central Michigan, 5-4 overall, 3-2 MAC action behind QB Broc Lowery 17/24 for 150 yards and 22 carries for 82 yards and another score while RB Jalen Buckley carried the ball 14 times for 68 yards and one touchdown.

9) San Jose State Spartans, 3-5 overall, 2-2 Mountain West outscored Hawai’i, 6-3 overall, 3-2 Mountain West 45 to 38. QB Walker Egt was 2-/40 for 458 yards and two scores along with Lamar Radcliffe 10 rushes for 97 yards, a score and Steve Chavez-Soto ten carries for 53 yards and three touchdowns. WR’s Danny Scudero seven receptions for 215 yards, Leland Smith four receptions for 113 yards, Kyri Shoals five receptions for 109 yards and on defense, Jordan Pollard recording eight total tackles. Hawai’i was led by QB Micah Alejado 31/46 for 367 yards and three scores. WR’S Jackson Harris six receptions 134 yards and two touchdowns, Pofele Ashlock, seven receptions for 104 yards.

10) Monmouth, 8-1 overall, 5-0 CAA beat Bryant, 27 overall 35 to 7 behind RB Rodney Nelson. Who carried the ball 34 times for 244 yards and two touchdowns.

11) Presbyterian, 8-1 overall, 4-1 Pioneer outscored Valparaiso, 1-8 overall, 0-5 in Pioneer, 43 to 14 behind QB Collin Hurst 26/32 for 278 yards and two scores along with WR’s B J Atkins, 75 yards, Nathan Levicki 69 yards and Dominic Kirby 57 yards all with five receptions each.

12) The Sycamores of Indiana State, 3-6 overall, 1-4 Missouri Valley upset South Dakota State, 7-2 overall, 3-2 in MVC action behind QB Keegan Patterson 15/25 for 188 yards and two scores along with 34 rushing yards. But the big plays belonged to WR Rashed Rochelle caught four passes for 84 yards and two scores and a magnificent 95-yard kick-off return.

13) South Carolina State, 6-3 overall, 2-0 in MEAC beat back Morgan State, 3-6 overall, 0-2 in MEAC play 36 to 30 behind QB William Atkins IV 21/32 FOR 363 yards and a touchdown along with RB Tyler Smith 18 carries for 110 yards and two scores along with WR Jordan Smith four receptions for 107 yards and Darius Thompson‘s 69-yard touchdown.

14) The Bengals of Idaho State, 3-6 overall, 2-3 Big Sky won a 38 to 36 thriller of UC Davis, 6-2 overall, 4-1 in Big Sky action behind QB Jordan Cooke‘s 21/36 for 252 yards and a couple of scores along with RB Dason Brooks 24 carries for 219 yards and two more scores and WR Tsion Nunnally‘s nine receptions for 119 yards and a score.

15) Portland State, 1-8 overall, 1-4 Big Sky claimed their first victory of the season over Cal Poly, 3-6 overall, 1-4 Big Sky behind QB John-Keawe Sagapolutele‘s 17 of 26 for 252 yards and a score along with RB Delon Thompson‘s 26 carries for 184 yards and crossing the goal line three separate times and WR Terence Loville‘s four catches for 86 yards.
