Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award- Player of the Week

LB – Mason Posa

Wisconsin

Wisconsin freshman linebacker Mason Posa has been named the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Week after a dominant performance in the Badgers’ win over Washington. Posa was all over the field, finishing with 11 tackles (six solo), 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble in what was easily the best game of his young career. His relentless effort and playmaking ability made him the Badgers’ most valuable player on Saturday.

One of Posa’s biggest moments came on a strip sack of Demond Williams Jr., setting Wisconsin up deep in Washington territory for a game-tying touchdown. Later in the game, he came through once again by recording a fourth-down sack to secure the victory. The freshman linebacker delivered when it mattered most, showing toughness, energy, and a strong ability to rise in key moments for the Wisconsin defense
The Maxwell Football Club and the Shaun Alexander Award have once again partnered with Pro Football Focus (PFF) and Phil Steele Publications as selection committee partners. PFF provides detailed metrics and performance-based assessments to selection committee staff, with several senior PFF analysts are members of our selection committee.
