Badgers beat Penn State in Opening Round 65 to 57

The first game of the first day of the BiG Ten Women’s Conference Tournament is the game, that you really don’t want to be competing in but both Wisconsin and Penn State drew that assignment.
And in front of a nice opening game crowd Wisconsin came out as the most aggressive team to jump up early to a 18-11.
Marsha Howard, 5’10 Senior put her mark on this contest early with key rebounds and in the paint buckets along with Wilmington, New Jersey freshman, Imani Lewis.

The Badgers opened the lead by four more before the halftime break and led 33 to 22.
Penn State came out of the break and responded with more competitiveness and with a three point field goal from Karisma Ortiz, the freshman from San Jose, California and timely baskets b y Kamaria McDaniel but the margin to just three points.

The final stanza saw a back and forth game till Medinah, Illinois Senior Kelly Karlis banked in a three with the aid of the backboard to regain momentum for the Badgers and righting the ship.
Three Badgers scored in double digits led by Imani Lewis 17, Marsha Howard 15 and Kendra Van Leeuwen’s 10. The Badgers were led in rebounds bby Howard’s 14 while Karlis added nine along with Lewis.

Penn State was led in scoring by Kamaria McDaniel’s 16 and Teniya Page’s 14.
Wisconsin moves on to the second round with a 14-17 over-all mark while Penn State falls to 12-18 for the season.
