BALANCED ATTACK LIFTS SYCAMORES OVER SALUKIS 71-59

 

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Sophomore Jake LaRavia led five Sycamores in double-figures to lead Indiana State to a series sweep and its fourth consecutive win, 71-59, over Southern Illinois Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Hulman Center.

The win marked the fourth straight on the season and fifth out of ISU’s last six games. It was also the Trees’ fourth consecutive win over Southern Illinois.

ISU (8-7, 5-5 MVC) stifled the SIU (7-5, 1-5 MVC) offense in the second half, holding the Salukis to just 32.1 percent (9-of-28) from the floor. For the game, Indiana State held Southern Illinois to 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the floor, the lowest percentage for a Sycamore opponent this season.

LaRavia finished the night with 20 points on the game to lead all scorers and added six rebounds and three assists. Both Cooper Neese and Randy Miller Jr. added 11 points apiece, with Miller’s six rebounds marking a new high while wearing an ISU jersey. Tre Williams and Julian Larry tallied 10 points apiece and marked a new career-high for the freshman Larry.

Indiana State shot 48.9 percent (23-of-47) from the floor for the game and once again one the rebounding contest, 33-32. After not getting a point from their bench in the series opener against Southern Illinois, the Sycamores outpaced the Salukis’ bench 23-11. ISU also held the advantage in fast break points, points in the paint,  14 fast break points compared to the Salukis’ three, and added 12 second chance points. ISU added 13 assists on the game, marking its third consecutive game with 10-or-more assists.

Southern Illinois once again had three players in double figures, with Trent Brown leading the Salukis with 13.

The Sycamores return to the friendly confines of the Hulman Center for a two-game series against Bradley Sunday and Monday, Jan. 30-31.
