Spartans’ Nick Ward claims Player and Freshman of the Week honors

• Averaged 21.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in the Spartans’ wins over visiting Nebraska and nationally-ranked Wisconsin
• For the week, shot 68.0 percent (17-of-25) from the field and 80.0 percent (8-of-10) from the free throw line
• Scored 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting, pulled down nine rebounds, including four offensive boards, and recorded a block against the Huskers
• Scored 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including a 4-of-4 effort from the free throw line, corralled nine rebounds and tallied a block in just 19 minutes versus the Badgers
• Michigan State improved to 5-0 on the season when Ward scores 20 or more points
• In conference games only, currently ranks second in the Big Ten in field goal percentage, shooting 58.7 percent
• Earns his first Player of the Week honor, and the first for a conference freshman this season
• Collects his fourth Freshman of the Week plaudit
