Indiana, Maryland and Minnesota Earn Final Weekly Big Ten Men’s Basketball Honors

Hoosiers’ Juwan Morgan claims second Player of the Week accolade this season;

Gophers’ Amir Coffey collects second Player of the Week honor in as many weeks;

Terrapins’ Jalen Smith garners third Freshman of the Week plaudit

 

Co-Players of the Week

Juwan Morgan, Indiana

F – Sr. – 6-8 – Waynesville, Mo. – Waynesville High School – Major: Sport Communication

  • Led Indiana to a pair of victories over Illinois and Rutgers averaging 22.5 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 71.4 percent from the floor
  • Tallied 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds while connecting on 11-of-13 from the floor in an 89-73 victory over Rutgers on Senior Day
  • Posted 20 points and nine rebounds in a 92-74 victory at Illinois as he shot 9-of-14 in the game
  • Earns the third Big Ten Player of the Week honor of his career and second this season
  • Last Indiana Player of the Week: Juwan Morgan (Dec. 17, 2018)

Amir Coffey, Minnesota

G – Jr. – 6-8 – Hopkins, Minn. – Hopkins High School – Major: Youth Studies

  • Averaged 27.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in a pair of games for the Gophers
  • Scored a career-high tying 32 points and grabbed eight rebounds in leading Minnesota to a 73-69 victory over No. 11/9 Purdue
  • Became the first Gopher to score 30-plus points in back-to-back games since Vincent Grier in 2005
  • Tied his career highs with three steals and three made 3-pointers against Purdue
  • Recorded 23 points, six assists, three rebounds a steal at No. 24/24 Maryland
  • Earns the second Big Ten Player of the Week honor of his career in as many weeks

Freshman of the Week

Jalen Smith, Maryland

F – 6-10 – Baltimore, Md. – Mount St. Joseph High School – Major: Information Science

  • Posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 69-60 victory over Minnesota
  • Connected on a career-high three 3-pointers and also had three blocked shots and two steals in the victory
  • Earns his third Freshman of the Week honor of the season
