Eight Big Ten Schools Headed To Bowl Games

Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin earn berths in New Year’s Six bowls

 

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Eight Big Ten schools were selected for bowl competition on Sunday, highlighted by three conference teams that received invitations to New Year’s Six bowls.

 

Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin will all compete in New Year’s Six games later this month, with the Buckeyes headed to the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, Penn State bound for the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, and Wisconsin selected for the Capital One Orange Bowl.

 

Five of the eight bowl-bound Big Ten schools will be making their first-ever appearance in their respective bowls, while another is competing in its chosen bowl for the second time.

 

The full Big Ten bowl lineup is as follows (final CFP rankings are listed):

 

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic (New Year’s Six Bowl)

  • No. 5 Ohio State vs. No. 8 USC
  • Dec. 29 – 8:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Arlington, Texas (AT&T Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Cotton Bowl for the fifth time
  • Ohio State is making its 48th bowl appearance, including its second trip to the Cotton Bowl (first since 1986)

 

PlayStation Fiesta Bowl (New Year’s Six Bowl)

  • No. 9 Penn State vs. No. 11 Washington
  • Dec. 30 – 4 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Glendale, Ariz. (University of Phoenix Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Fiesta Bowl for the 11th time
  • Penn State is making its 48th bowl appearance, including its 18th as a member of the Big Ten; the Nittany Lions are also making their seventh trip to the Fiesta Bowl and second as a Big Ten member (first since 1996)

 

Capital One Orange Bowl (New Year’s Six Bowl)

  • No. 6 Wisconsin vs. No. 10 Miami
  • Dec. 30 – 8 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Miami Gardens, Fla. (Hard Rock Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Orange Bowl for the ninth time
  • Wisconsin is making its 29th bowl appearance, while this will be the Badgers’ first-ever trip to the Orange Bowl

 

Outback Bowl

  • Michigan vs. South Carolina
  • Jan. 1 – Noon ET (ESPN2)
  • Tampa, Fla. (Raymond James Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Outback Bowl for the 29th time
  • Michigan is making its 45th bowl appearance, including its sixth trip to the Outback Bowl

 

San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl

  • No. 16 Michigan State vs. No. 18 Washington State
  • Dec. 28 – 9 p.m. ET (FS1)
  • San Diego, Calif. (SDCCU Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Holiday Bowl for the 13th time
  • Michigan State is making its 27th bowl appearance, including its 25th as a member of the Big Ten; the Spartans will play in the Holiday Bowl for the first time

 

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl

  • No. 20 Northwestern vs. Kentucky
  • Dec. 29 – 4:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Nashville, Tenn. (Nissan Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Music City Bowl for the sixth time
  • Northwestern is making its 14th bowl appearance and its first-ever trip to the Music City Bowl

 

New Era Pinstripe Bowl

  • Iowa vs. Boston College
  • Dec. 27 – 5:15 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Bronx, N.Y. (Yankee Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Pinstripe Bowl for the fourth time
  • Iowa is making its 31st bowl appearance and its first-ever berth in the Pinstripe Bowl

 

Foster Farms Bowl

  • Purdue vs. Arizona
  • Dec. 27 – 8:30 p.m. ET (FOX)
  • Santa Clara, Calif. (Levi’s Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Foster Farms Bowl for the fifth time
  • Purdue is making its 18th bowl appearance and its inaugural trip to the Foster Farms Bowl
