Excel H Sports SPOTLIGHT Episode III (a focus on Beyond the Power 4)

We bring to you this week our SPOTLIGHT on individual accomplishments from athletes in teams BEYOND THE POWER 4 conferences.

  1. In the Rice Owls 28 to 17 win over Charlotte, Quinton Jackson rushed 12 times for 80 yards while Daelen Alexander rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns on ten carries. QB Chase Jenkins rushed ten times for 71 yards and threw for 87 yards, a touchdown on eight of eleven passes. On defense, Andrew Awe totaled 11 tackles with six being solo and teammates Ty Morris accounted for eight tackles and Marcus Williams had six solos.
  2.  In Tulsa‘s 19 to 12 win over Big 12 Oklahoma State, QB Baylor Hayes threw for 219 yards on 22 of 36 passing and a score while running back Dominic Richardson accounted for 31 carries for 146 yards while on defense, Ray Coney had 13 total tackles, nine solo, Lento Smith, Jr. ten total tackles, eight solo and William Alexander ten total tackles and seven solo.
  3. Memphis outlasted Arkansas 32 to 31 to remain unbeaten during the contest, QB Brendon Lewis passed for 199 yards on 15 of 30 passing and rushed 16 times for another 103 yards and two scores. Running back Sutton Smith carried the pigskin 12 times for 147 yards, with the longest run of 64 yards and a score. Receiver Cortez Braham, Jr. caught seven passes for 102 yards and a score while on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage, Kamari Wilson totaled eight total tackles with six so
  4. North Texas State remained undefeated with a narrow 45 to 38 win over the United States Academy at West Point (Army).  The Mean Green QB Drew Mestamaker threw for 249 yards, a score on 26 of 56 passes while his teammates, running backs Makenzie NcGill II totaled 101 yards on the ground and Caleb Hawkins rushed 13 times for 99 yards and four (4) scores. Receiver Miles Coleman led the team in receptions with eight for 84 yards. On defense, North Texas was led by a trio, that consisted of Ethan Wesloski, Patrick Smith Yous and Shane Whitten with eleven total tackles. Fatafehi Vailea II had ten total tackles.
  5.  In the same game, Army was led by QB Dewayne Coleman who threw for 101 yards and two scores while rushing 23 times for 117 yards and another score. Running back Hayden Reed rushed for 113 yards, a score on 19 carries.
  6. University of Texas at San Antonio clips Colorado State 17 to 16 behind QB Owen McCown‘s 14 of 27 passing on 14 of 27 attempts while RB, Robert Henry Jr. carried 21 times for 144 yards and a score and catching two McCown passes for another score and 76 yards. On defense, Jimmy Wyrick and Shad Banks, Jr. tallied eleven total tackles. Colorado State‘s Owen Long had three solo tackles in his 14 game high tackles.
  7. Nevada Las Vegas moves to 4 and 0 after a tough battle with Mid-American conference member, Miami of Ohio with a 41 to 38 victory. In the game UNLV QB Anthony Colandrea passed for 293 yards, two scores on 29 of 43 passing attempts. RB Jai Den Thomas rushed for 118 yards and a score on 13 carries while receiver Jaden Bradley and Troy Omeire caught seven passes each accounting for 169 total yards. Defensively, Marcel McDuffie totaled 10 tackles while Jaheem Joseph had solo tackles in nine totals.
  8. Miami of Ohio was led by Henry Hesson, quarterback who threw for 134 yards on eight of seventeen passing and a score along with Daquan Finn‘s seven of 12 passing attempts for 131 yards and two scores. Kenny Tracy, running back rushed for 104 yards on 16 carries and caught six passes for 84 more yards and two scores. Receiver Kam Perry accounted for 122 yards on five receptions. Eli Blakey led the defense with 16 total tackles and ten solo tackles.
  9. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers downed Nevada 31 to 16 to post their third win of the season behind QB Maverick McIvor‘s 22 of 33 passing attempts for 216 yards while receiver Noah Meyers caught six passes for 81 yards and Anthony Brackenridge led the team with eleven total tackles, nine being solo.
  10. Utah State picked up their third win of the season by downing McNeese State 48 to 7. QB Bryson Barnes threw 27 times for 19 yards for 293 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 13 times for another 128 and two more scores. RB Miles Davis rushed for thirteen times too accounting for 128 yards and two more scores. Receiver Brady Boyd caught four passes for 81 yards and two scores while on defense, Carson Tujague totaled eleven total tackles.
  11. San Diego State dumped ACC member California 34 to zero behind the efforts of QB Jayden Denegal’s 189 yards of passing on fifteen of eighteen passes. His top receiver was Jordan Napier who caught nine passes for 154 yards.
  12. Fresno State handed Hawai’i a 23 to 21 setback on Saturday behind QB E J Warner‘s 230 yards of passing on 22 of 29 passing attempts with receivers Kamron Beachem receiving 84 yards worth of yardage on only two receptions while Ezekiel Auit caught five passes for 46 yards. On defense, K’vion Thunderbird totaled eight tackles with teammate Simeon Harris adding seven and Jakar Embry totaling six more. Hawai’i was led by QB Micah Alejado‘s 28 of 47 passing for 219 yards.
  13. James Madison downed Liberty 31 to 13 to claim victory number two Saturday behind QB Alonza Barnett III 213 yards on 17 of 25 passing with teammate RB Wayne Knight rushing for 89 yards on 17 carries and Ayo Adeyi‘s 87 yards on 13 carries.
  14. Georgia Southern moved their win total to two with a 45 to 17 win over Maine. QB J C French IV threw for 253 yards on 19 of 31 attempts and a score while RB O J Arnold gained 85 yards on thirteen carries and receiver Camden Brown caught six passes for 118 yards.
  15. Louisiana Tech downed Southern Mississippi in a 30 to 20 game. LA Tech QB Blake Baker threw for 239 yards on 15 of 21 passing attempts while Eli Finley caught six passes for 135 yards. Southern Mississippi was led by QB Braylon Braxton‘s 392 yards on 28 of 47 passing and two touchdowns while receiver Carl Chester caught four passes for 118 yards.
