Excel H Sports SPOTLIGHT is highlighting BEYOND THE POWER 4 and FCS individual accomplishments in their team setting. Occasionally, we will add a FBS individual in a team setting.
1) Garrison Rippa connected on a 52-yard field goal as time expired to lift Jacksonville State to a 29 to 27 victory over a competitive Sam Houston State team. Running backs Cam Cook rushed 31 times for 218 yards and two scores while teammate Cadel Creel rushed 24 times for another 132 yards. The defense was led by Walker O’Steen‘s nine total tackles which included, three and one half tackles for losss.
2) Southern Mississippi moved their conference record to two wins against no setbacks behind QB Braylon Braxton‘s 19 of 28 passing attempts for 237 yards and two touchdowns while RB Jeffery Pittman racked up 140 yards and two scores on 31 carries. On defense, Chris Jones, compiled eleven total tackles with two and a half for loss.
3) The B1G Ten is represented this week by the weekly improving Washington as they downed Rutgers 38 to 19 behind QB Demond Williams, Jr. 21 of 27 attempts for 402 yards and two touchdowns. Williams also rushed 13 times for 136 yards and two scores. Receivers Dezmen Roebuck hauled in four passes for 108 yards and Denzel Boston caught five passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Xe’ree Alexander and Deven Bryant totaled eight total tackles apiece.
4) Houston, behind the arm of Quarterback Conner Weigman 21 of 30 passing attempts for 306 yards and two scores led the Cougars to a 39 to 17 win over a rebuilding Oklahoma State team. RB Dean Connors rushed fifteen times for 83 yards and a TD while receiver Amare Thomas caught seven passes for 157 yards.
5) Nevada Las Vegas nipped the Air Force Academy 51 to 48 in an exciting game. QB Anthony Colandrea‘s 361 yards on a 20 of 32 passing night. RB Jai’Den Thomas rushed eleven attempts for 88 yards and a score while receiver Daejon Reynolds caught four passes for 138 yards and another score. On defense, UNLV had four players who accounted for over ten total tackles. That group consisted of Andrew Powdrell 13, Marsel McDuffie 12, Jake Pope 11 and Jaheem Joseph ten.
6) The Thundering Herd of Marshall University moved to one and one in conference play as they downed Old Dominion 48 to 24 behind QB Carlos Del Rip Wilson‘s 17 of 24 passing attempts for 219 yards and two scores while rushing for 95 yards on 17 carries and two more times crossing the goal line. WR Demarcus Lacey brought in eight completions for 121 yards and a score.
7) Hawai’i carried on their winning ways on the Island as they downed Utah State 44 to 26 on Saturday night. Quarterback Micah Alejado went over the 400 passing yard mark as he connected on 34 of 54 passes, resulting in three Rainbow scores. Running back Landon Sims rushed for 82 yards on ten carries while receivers Jackson Harris caught seven passes for 117 yards and Pofele Ashlock was on target eight times for 113 yards and three touchdowns.
8) In a high-scoring game Troy downed Texas State 48 to 41 behind QB Tucker Kilcrease connecting on 30 of 39 passes for 415 yards and five touchdowns. WR D J Epps caught ten passes for 148 yards while on defense, Jordan Stringer totaled 15 tackles, 10 solos and three for loss.
9) Teas State was powered by QB Brad Jackson. Jackson connected on 19 of 22 passes for 248 yards and rushed 18 times for 77 more yards. RB Greg Burrell rushed thirteen times for 136 yards and a score while running back Lincoln Pare rushed 22 times for 113 yards. WR Chris Dawn, Jr. and Beau Sparks brought in seven passes. Dawn Jr. 119 yards and Sparks 78.
10) Ivy League Brown downed Bryant 29 to 19 behind quarterback James Murphy who passed for 336 yards on 29 of 44 passing attempts. RB Matt Childs rushed 21 times for 92 yards and two scores while fellow back, Quentin Brown rushed ten times for 50 yards and a score.
11) The Harvard Crimson continued their march through the season and the rankings, kept that streak alive with a 34 to 10 win over Cornell. Harvard’s QB Jaden Craig threw for 237 yards and a score while RB Xaviah Bascon rushed 23 times for 94 yards while receiver Brady Blackburn caught five passes for 101 yards.
12) Sacred Heart downed Howard 32 to 14 behind quarterback Jack Snyder. Snyder threw for 147 yards and a score while RB Mitchell Summers rushed 18 times for 243 yards and crossed the goal line twice. WR Payton Rhoades accounted for 71 yards and a score on four receptions.
13) The Big Sky’s Montana State won big as they downed Idaho State 48 to 14 behind State’s dual threat QB Justin Lamson who threw for 184 yards on 17 of 21 resulting in four scores. Lamson also rushed for 50 more yards on 16 carries and another goal line crossing touchdown. RB Adam Jones rushed 16 times for 173 yards .
14) Jackson State kept up their winning ways with a 38 to 34 victory over Alabama State. Jackson State QB JaCobian Morgan passed for 187 yards on a sixteen of twenty-three passing night and four scores while RB Travis Terrell, Jr. rushed seventeen times for 77 yards. Alabama State was led by QB Andrew Body. Body threw for 349 yards on a 20 of 30 passing night and rushed 14 times for 93 yards. RB Jamarie Holstzclaw rushed ten times for 53 yards and two scores.
15) Illinois State in the Missouri Valley Conference defeated Murray State 46 to 32 Saturday. Redbird QB Tommy Rittenhouse threw for 338 yards and four touchdowns on an accurate 21 of 25 passing attempts while running backs, Victor Dawson (10 carries for 71 yards and a score) and Wen Wright rushed 15 times for 60 yards while receiver Daniel Sobkowicz caught eight receptions for 162 yards and a score.
