Excel H Sports SPOTLIGHT returns for Year number 2 which highlights performances in the FCS and BEYOND THE POWER 4 (Group of Six) college conferences. This week we take a look at the FCS.
- Idaho quarterback Joshua Wood ran in a touchdown from 25 yards out and then proceeded to score a two-point run to propel Idaho to the first victory of the season. The Vandals took down Excel H Sports #1 FCS College Football team, Montana State in the process by the score of 35 to 34.
- Princeton running back Kai Honda rushed for 219 yards on 14 carries and scored four times, with his longest run being 70 yards as the Tigers won.
- Lehigh‘s Luke Yoder rushed 26 times for 171 yards and a score while Derek Morgan hit on ten of twenty passes for 152 yards and three scores in a 34 to nothing win over Fordham.
- Richmond quarterback Ashten Snelsire threw for 218 yards on 24 of 38 passing while totaling three touchdowns in a 40 to 31 victory over Lafayette. Jackson Thorne led from the defensive side with nine total tackles, which included five solos and 1 1/2 sacks for the Spiders.
- Cameron Edge, Morgan State quarterback threw for 444 yards on 31 of 40 passing including three touchdowns and an interception in their 38 to 35 victory over Villanova on the road. Villanova quarterback Pat McQuade threw for 266 yards of passing on 22 of 28 attempts while Justin Perry accounted for 152 yards of receiving on five catches including a 79-yard reception.
- The Citadel, 2 and 3 on the season gave South Carolina State their first loss of the season Saturday with running back Gavin Garcia rushing 18 times for 167 yards and 2 scores with 44 being his longest run with receiver Damir Abdullah caught three passes for 84 yards. South Carolina State‘s quarterback Keely Watson throwing for 245 yards on 20 of 31 attempts for two scores.
- Mississippi Valley State quarterback Josh Brown passing for 144 yards and one touchdown and adding 101 yards rushing and three touchdowns in their 28 to 27 victory over Prairie View. Caleb Brownlow caught four passes for 92 yards and a score.
- Youngstown State downed Southern Illinois 28 to 16 in Missouri Valley Conference play Saturday. Youngstown State Penguins quarterback Beau Brugard completed 20 passes out of 29 attempts for 219 yards and a score while carrying the ball 16 times for 69 yards and a score. Austin Bray caught five for 78 yards while teammate Lynn Wyche-El caught five passes for 53 yards while Southern Illinois quarterback D J Williams completed 19 passes of 35 attempts for 288 yards with Kyle Thomas caught eight passes for 155 yards. Youngstown State Graydon Rollins totaled nine tackles and Southern Illinois’ Ben Fiegel was game high with 11 tackles
- Northern Arizona Lumberjacks’ quarterback Ty Pennington amassed 252 yards on 21 of 27 passing attempts and carried the pigskin eight times for another 49 yards in their 38 to 31 victory of previously unbeaten Idaho State Bengals. Northern running back Kenveon Stone rushed eight times for 103 yards a couple of scores. Idaho State quarterback Jordan Cooke threw for 385 yards, with three touchdown passes on 34 of 51 attempts. Chedon James caught eleven of those passes for 97 yards and Julian Mason hauled in seven passes for another 93 yards. Lumberjack Jeter Purdy caught six passes for 146 yards with the longest reception of 86 yards along with Shahid Wilson and Malaki Te’o leading the way on the defensive side with seven total tackles a piece.
- Stephen F Austin quarterback Gavin Rutherford threw for 291 yards on 26 of 34 passes resulting in three touchdowns in the Lumberjacks 28 to 26 win over Incarnate Word. SFA’s Clayton Wayland hauled in five passes for 104 yards and a score while IW quarterback Emmett Brown threw for 372 yards on 27 of 52 passing attempts while teammate Christian Barney was the leading tackler of the game with 12 total tackles. Stephen F Austin remains unbeaten at six and zero for the season.
