Last season’s Big Ten scoring leader, Guirantes is also a unanimous choice for Preseason All-Big Ten Team 

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Redshirt senior guard Arella Guirantes of Rutgers women’s basketball has been named the Preseason Big Ten Co-Player of the Year by the conference’s coaches on Wednesday, along with a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team by both the coaches and media.

Guirantes is the first player from Rutgers to earn a conference preseason Player of the Year honor since Cappie Pondexter in the 2005 Big East preseason awards.

Gearing up for her final collegiate season, Guirantes led the Big Ten and ranked ninth in the nation with 20.6 points per game last season during a campaign that was lauded with All-America Honorable Mention accolades by the Associated Press, the WBCA and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. She was also named to the All-Big Ten First Team, just the third from Rutgers since joining the conference in 2014-15 and first to be selected unanimously.

On Nov. 10, Guirantes was named to the season-long Watch List for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award bestowed to the nation’s top shooting guard.
