HOOPS STANDOUTS PUT ON A SHOW DURING 10TH ANNUAL INDIANA CLASS BASKETBALL ALL-STAR CLASSIC AT ANDERSON UNIVERSITY

ANDERSON – More than 140 boys and girls high school hoops standouts were invited to showcase their talents this past weekend, and they didn’t disappoint during the 10th Annual Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic at Anderson University.

The milestone two-day event opened on Friday, June 15, inside the Kardatzke Wellness Center with a thrilling Senior Girls Red Team victory, 82-79 double overtime, over the Senior Girls White Team.

The Senior Boys Red Team put on a show behind four double-digit scorers, including 22 points from South Bend Washington’s Cory McKinney, en route to a 93-70 win over the Senior Boys White Team.

During Friday evening’s Future Games doubleheader, the Future Girls Red Team edged the Future Girls White Team 86-79. The Future Boys Red Team prevailed over the Future Boys White Team, 77-69.

On Saturday, June 16, the Junior Girls White Team 1 pushed past the Juniors Girls Red Team 2 by an 11-point margin, 73-62, in the first of two junior girls’ basketball showcase games.

In the second game, the Junior Girls Red Team 2 won 61-56 over the Junior Girls White Team 2.

In the first of two junior boys’ contests on Saturday, the Junior Boys White Team 1 nearly doubled up the Junior Boys Red Team 1 with a final tally of 95-80.

In the event’s finale, the Junior Boys Red Team 2 put together the showcase’s highest point total this year with a 125-94 victory over the Junior Boys White Team 2.

Floyd Central’s Cobie Barnes posted a game-high 43 points for the Junior Boys Red Team 2, marking the second-best single-game tally in the history of the Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic.

Eight competitors overall were each named Most Outstanding Players for their specific games, while 17 participants total were recognized as Kent Benson Fellowship of Christian Athletes Mental Attitude Award recipients.

SENIOR GIRLS: (Senior Girls Red 82, Senior Girls White 79) – It took a collective effort for the Senior Girls Red Team to claim victory in the opening game of the 10th Annual Indiana Basketball All-Star Classic on Friday, June 15.

Led by five double-digit scorers, the Senior Girls Red Team defeated the Senior Girls White Team 82-79.

Gary Westside’s Jada Dixon finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and 17 rebounds. Skye Williams of Charles A. Tindley posted a team-high 24 points with five assists and seven rebounds. Cascade’s Emelia Bryant had 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Cascade’s Olivia Bryant added 14 points, six rebounds and seven assists for the Red Team, while Leo’s Sophia Pierce chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds with three assists.

Charles A. Tindley’s Kendall Fisher paced the Senior Girls White Team with 24 points, six rebounds and 11 assists.

Both Bethesda Christian’s McKenna Baker and Tippecanoe Valley’s Addy Miller recorded double-doubles. Baker had 14 points and 10 rebounds with two assists. Miller posted 12 points, 10 rebounds and two assists.

Columbus East’s Brittany Ballard contributed five points and six rebounds. Nola Wilson of Charles A. Tindley had 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. Maconaquah’s Syenna Powell added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.

The game’s Most Outstanding Player was awarded to Skye Williams. Emilia Bryant and Syenna Powell were named Kent Benson Fellowship of Christian Athletes Mental Attitude recipients.

SENIOR BOYS: (Senior Boys Red 93, Senior Boys White 70) – A quartet of double-digit scorers propelled the Senior Boys Red Team to a 93-70 win over the Senior Boys White Team on Friday, June 15.

South Bend Washington’s Cory McKinney led the Red Team with 22 points, six rebounds and three assists. Lapel’s Austin Lyons finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds in addition to two assists.

Irvington Prep’s DeShaun Kendrick supplied 17 points, and Lafayette Jefferson’s James Burns had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Elkhart Central’s Wes Sage finished with eight points and seven rebounds. Bailey Hester of Columbus North had five points, four rebounds and five assists.

Northeastern’s Freeman Brou added six points and four rebounds, while Woodlan’s Aaron Hahn had seven points and five rebounds.

The Senior Boys White Team received a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds from Anderson’s JoMel Boyd. Indianapolis Crispus Attucks’ Derrick Briscoe had 17 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Christel House’s Jeff Davis posted 13 points, five rebounds and two assists. Cascade’s Dalton Dubois finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Cambridge City Lincoln’s Garrett Pumphrey added four rebounds and three assists. Greencastle’s Colin York chipped in five points. Jac-Cen-Del’s Conner Hubbard had four points and four assists. Northeast Dubois’ Alan Kersteins had one point and two rebounds.

Cory McKinney was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player, and Colin York and Bailey Hester were both recognized as Kent Benson Fellowship of Christian Athletes Mental Attitude recipients.

FUTURE GIRLS: (Future Girls Red 86, Future Girls White 79) – Lafayette Jefferson’s Krystin Green dropped a team-high 16 points to lead the Future Girls Red Team to an 86-79 victory over the Future Girls White Team on Friday, June 15.

Green added two rebounds and five assists to join Kendall Bostic as the game’s Most Outstanding Players.

Shenandoah’s Kathryn Perry had 15 points, two rebounds and two assists for the Red Team. Triton Central’s Tenleigh Phelps finished with 10 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Northwestern’s Kendall Bostic had 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Lafayette Jefferson’s Kiara Lewis chipped in four points and seven rebounds. West Lafayette’s Alaina Omonode had nine points and three rebounds.

Sydney Watkins of Heritage Christian had 13 points, three rebounds and three assists. Anderson’s Tyra Ford supplied four points and a rebound.

Mary Wilson of Center Grove scored a game-high 23 points for the White Team. Northwestern’s Madison Laydon followed with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Sydney Jacobson of Harrison (West Lafayette) had 11 points and five rebounds. Franklin Central’s Rachel Loobie added 10 points, two rebounds and seven assists. Gary Westside’s Dash Shaw had 15 points, two rebounds and two assists.

Danville’s Ella Collier provided five points and six rebounds. Penn’s Jordyn Smith had two points, two rebounds and six assists. Avon’s Haley Nichols finished with six points, five rebounds and three assists.

Sydney Jacobson and Kathryn Perry were both named Kent Benson Fellowship of Christian Athletes Mental Attitude recipients.

FUTURE BOYS: (Future Boys Red 77, Future Boys White 69) – The future looks bright for Wabash’s Trenton Daughrty, who poured in a game-high 24 points to power the Future Boys Red Team over the Future Boys White Team 77-69 on Friday, June 15.

Daughrty added five rebounds and two assists en route to collecting the game’s Most Outstanding Player award.

Johnell Davis of 21st Century recorded 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists for the Red Team, while Lawrence Central’s Dre Davis had 15 points and four rebounds.

Carson Barrett of Lafayette Central Catholic finished with 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. Heritage Hills’ Murray Becher had nine points and three rebounds.

Noblesville’s Jordan Gaddis had two points and two rebounds with an assist. Dominic Lucido of Hanover Central grabbed three rebounds and dished out an assist.

Bedford North Lawrence’s Brayton Bailey posted a team-high 14 points along with seven rebounds and four assists for the White Team. Fort Wayne Snider’s Dillion Duff had 11 points and five rebounds.

Curt Hopf of Forest Park added nine points, 14 rebounds and three assists. Northwestern’s Tayson Parker had 13 points, three rebounds and two assists.

Reece Bauer of Northeast Dubois chipped in 10 points, three rebounds and three assists. Hamilton Heights’ Gus Etchison had nine points, four rebounds and two assists. Frankton’s Ayden Brobston contributed two points, 10 rebounds and two assists.

Gus Etchison and Carson Barrett were both named Kent Benson Fellowship of Christian Athletes Mental Attitude recipients.

JUNIOR GIRLS: (Junior Girls White 1 73, Junior Girls Red 1 62) – Castle’s Jessica Nunge posted in a game-high 18 points with 10 rebounds and two assists to lead the Junior Girls White Team 1 to a 73-62 win over the Junior Girls Red Team 1 on Saturday, June 16.

The White Team had four double-digit scorers, including Homestead’s Sylare Starks, who finished with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Mooresville’s Elise Scaggs had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Owen Valley’s Dazia Drake chipped in 11 points, two rebounds and three assists.

Elkhart Central’s Trinitee Harris had seven points, nine rebounds and four assists. Tipton’s Kelsey Mitchell finished with seven points, six rebounds and two assists. Northwood’s Kenzie Bergman had three points, four rebounds and an assist.

New Castle’s Cameron Tabor led the Red Team with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Homestead’s Kara Gealy added 10 points, four rebounds and an assist.

Paoli’s Jacqlyn Rice had two points and six rebounds. Brandi Norton of Lafayette Jefferson had four points, while Tipton’s Cassidy Crawford had eight points, three rebounds and two assists.

Monroe Central’s Jordyn Barga supplied nine points, five rebounds and two assists. Northview’s Jenny Lundy hauled in 10 rebounds to go with five points. Clinton Prairie’s Tatum Neal had seven points, five rebounds and two assists.

Jessica Nunge was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player. Kelsey Mitchell and Cameron Tabor were both honored as Kent Benson Fellowship of Christian Athletes Mental Attitude recipients.

JUNIOR GIRLS 2: (Junior Girls Red 2 61, Junior Girls White 2 56) – A trio of double-digit scorers propelled the Junior Girls Red Team 2 to victory, 61-56, over the Junior Girls White Team 2 on Saturday, June 16.

Perry Meridian’s Ariana Booker had 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while Bloomington South’s Addisyn Blackwell finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists to earn Most Outstanding Player honors.

Northridge’s Morgan Litwiller had 11 points and five rebounds for the Red Team.

Cloverdale’s Tori Combs contributed nine points, five rebounds and two assists. East Central’s Alyssa Robben had five points and four rebounds. Columbus North’s Nadia Lomax had six points and four rebounds. North Miami’s Adria Hartley added four points.

Riley Ott of LaPorte led the White Team with 14 points, two rebounds and two assists. Western Boone’s Madison Taylor followed with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Anderson’s Staisha Hamilton had nine points, while Winchester’s Kira Robinson had six rebounds.

Jayla Rogers of Indianapolis Shortridge chipped in six points and seven rebounds. Lafayette Central Catholic’s Lexi Thompson had six points. Columbus East’s Claire Cunningham finished with six points and seven rebounds.

Rylee Morris of Lutheran had four points, four rebounds and three assists.

Riley Ott and Alyssa Robben were both named Kent Benson Fellowship of Christian Athletes Mental Attitude recipients.

JUNIOR BOYS: (Junior Boys White 1 95, Junior Boys Red 1 80) – The Junior Boys White Team 1 used a trio of 20-point scorers to prevail 95-80 over the Junior Boys Red Team 1 on Saturday, June 16.

Evansville Memorials’ Sam DeVault and Westfield’s Zach Banks both finished with 22 points, while Lowell’s Dustin Hudak added 20 points in the second of three double-digit victories during the 10th Annual Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic.

Hudak also hauled in six rebounds. Banks had three boards, and DeVault nearly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.

Logansport’s Will Penny had 13 points and five rebounds. Madison’s Cooper Yancey posted 10 points, five rebounds and an assist. Tipton’s Carson Dolezal had two points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Allen Plunkett of South Putnam finished with six points, six rebounds and four assists.

The Junior Boys Red Team 1 had four players reach double figures led by Goshen’s Bryant Robinson’s game-high 28 points. He also had seven rebounds and two assists.

Lapel’s Luke Richardson had 22 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Alexandria’s Avery Paddock contributed 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Cody Swimm of Hagerstown had 11 points, three rebounds and four assists.

Franklin’s Reece Thompson had three points and three rebounds. Noblesville’s Xavier Hines had six rebounds and eight assists.

Sam DeVault was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player. Dustin Hudak and Xavier Hines were recognized as Kent Benson Fellowship of Christian Athletes Mental Attitude recipients.

JUNIOR BOYS 2: (Junior Boys Red 2 125, Junior Boys White 2 94) – Floyd Central’s Cobie Barnes and the Junior Boys Red Team 2 saved the best for last on Saturday, June 16.

Barnes scored a game-high 43 points to go with 12 rebounds and six assists to lead the Red Team to a 125-94 victory over the Junior Boys White Team 2 in the showcase finale.

Barnes’ performance marked the second-highest single-game point total in the history of the Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic.

The Red Team had three players surpass 20-points or more with Greensburg’s Drew Comer pouring in 32 points. He also hauled in nine rebounds. Whiteland’s Brennan Neal had 21 points.

Jake Wilkes of Cloverdale had nine points, seven rebounds and three assists. Frankton’s Kayden Key finished with 12 points and five rebounds.

The White Team was led by Griffith’s Tim Lawson’s 32 points, six rebounds and three assists. Dominque Smith of Lake Station added 18 points.

Lawrence North’s Jared Hankins had 16 points, four rebounds and two assists. Logansport’s Sam Skaggs pushed the tempo with a game-high 27 assists, along with 14 points and two rebounds.

Southwestern’s Tyler Kramer added five points, eight rebounds and two assists. Ryan Detling of Frankton grabbed nine rebounds.

Cobie Barnes collected the game’s Most Outstanding Player award. Lake Station’s Dominique Smith, Plymouth’s Clay Hilliard and Sam Skaggs of Logansport were named Kent Benson Fellowship of Christian Athletes Mental Attitude recipients.

Next year’s Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic will be once again held on Father’s Day Weekend on Friday, June 14th and Saturday, June 15th, 2019 at Anderson Universities Kardatzke Wellness Center.
