Game 1: Northwestern 72 Minnesota 64

Nick Martnelli leads the Wildcats to over the Gophers

Ty Berry buries shot from the line

Nick Martnelli scored 28 points and pulled down 7 rebounds to lead the #13 seed Northwestern Wildcats over the #12 Seed Minnesota Golden Gophers 72-64 in the first round of the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament Presented by TIAA Wednesday Afternoon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Northwestern improves to 17-15 and will face #5 seed Wisconsin tomorrow afternoon at ,2:30 PM in the second round. Minnesota ends their season at 15-17. Northwestern led ,32-29 at halftime and outscored Minnesota 40-35 in the second half.

Jordan Clayton drives to basket 

Ty Berry scored 14 points, Jordan Clayton scored 11 points and K.J. Windham who played at Ben Davis HS on the Westside of Indianapolis scored 10 points off the bench. Northwestern went 27-56 from the field for 48 percent, 6-21 from three-point range for 28 percent and 12-22 from the free throw line. The Wildcats pulled down ,36 rebounds, dished out 20 assists, 4 blocks, 4 steals and committed 11 turnovers.

 K J Windham looks for an assist

Dawson Gracia led Minnesota with 22 points and Frank Mitchell added 11 points. The Golden Gophers went 20-53 from the field for 37 percent, 7-22 from three-point range for 31 percent and 17-21 from the free throw line for 81 percent. Minnesota pulled down 32 rebounds, 12 assists, 7 steals, 7 blocks and committed 12 turnovers.

Dawson Garcia

Nick Martinelli and Dawson Gracia was a good matchup. The 6-7 Martnelli who is a Junior from Glencoe, Illinois went 12-22 from the field, 0-3 from three-point range and 4-10 from the free throw line along with 3 assists and a block.

Garcia, the 6-11 Senior from Savage, Minnesota went ,7-13 form the field, 2-2 from three-point range and six for six from the free throw line. Gracia had 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

Windham had the shot of the game in the second half going for a loose ball towards the baseline and shooting off one leg with 4:47 left in the second half that the Indianapolis native will not forget playing in front of the hometown crowd.

 Bruce Thornton led Ohio State with 24 points, Devin Royal added 17 points and Micah Parrish added 16 points. Ohio State went 25-59 from the field for 42%, 5-22 from three-point range and 15-20 from the free throw line for 75%. Ohio State pulled down 31 rebounds, 11 assists, 7 steals, a block and committed 10 turnovers.
   Ohio State led 6-0 and Iowa got on the board with 14:11 left in the first half by Ladji Dembele on a tip in. Once Iowa got going the game was back and forth with the teams tied 37-37 at halftime. Iowa outscored Ohio State 40-33 in the second half. The game was tied 61-61 with 7:11 left when Iowa outscored the Buckeyes 16-9 to put the game away and live to see tomorrow while Ohio State will have the long wait until 6 PM Sunday to see if they are on the right side or the wrong side of the bubble.
Trojans take down Scarlet Knights in a Double Overtime Thriller

   #14 Seed USC Trojans and  #11 Seed Rutgers Scarlet Knights needed 10 extra minutes Wednesday Night as The Trojans beat the Scarlet Knights 97-89 in double overtime Wednesday Night  in the first round of the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament Presented by TIAA  at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Indianapolis. USC is 16-16 on the season and will face # 6 Seed Purdue tomorrow at 9 pm in the second round Rutgers ends its season at 15-17.
    USC led 41-30 at halftime as there were 3 ties and 1 lead change. Rutgers outscored USC 43-32 in the second half. Desmond Claude’s layup tied the game at 73-73 with nine seconds left. Dylan Harper missed a jumper with two seconds left as the game went to overtime. Both teams scored 8 points in overtime and needed an extra five minutes as Jeremiah Williams missed a three pointer at the end of the first overtime as the game was tied at 81-81 and we played on. USC took control in the Second Overtime outscoring Rutgers 16-8.
     Airius “Ace” Bailey
      Desmond Claude led USC with 28 points and went 12-15 from the free throw line. Wesley Yates III scores 24 points, Rashaun Agee scored 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Chibuzo Agbo had 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Trojans were 31-60 from the field for 51 percent, 10-23 for 43 percent and 25-31 at the free throw kinw for 80 percent. USC pulled down 39 rebounds 19 assists, 6 steals no blocks and committed 21 turnovers.

Freshman Dylan Harper scored 27 points and his classmate Ace Bailey scored 17 points to lead Rutgers. Lathan Sommerville and Tysen Acuff both scored 16 points each off the bench. Rutgers went 33-77 from the field for 43 percent, 6-30 from three point range for 20 percent and 17-22 from the free throw line down 77 percent. Rutgers pulled down 38 rebounds 21 assists 9 steals 5 blocks and committed 12 turnovers.
