Personal Bests and Regional Winners Top Week-15 of the IBCA/Franciscan Health Player of the Week Awards
While the remaining girls’ teams spent Saturday battling it out for Regional titles, several boys
around the state spent last week accumulating a lot of points, as their teams prepare for their own state
tournament. This week six more student-athletes were selected as the Week-15 winners of the
IBCA/Franciscan Health Player of the Week award.
North Judson-San Pierre Senior Lilliann Frasure, Tri-West Junior Kenna Kirby, Greenwood
Christian Senior Isabella Reed, South Bend St. Joseph Senior J.R. Konieczny, Crawfordsville Senior
Jesse Hall, and Evansville North Senior Chandler Moore are the recipients for Feb. 8-Feb. 13 in the
recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. Frasure and Konieczny
earned girls’ and boys’ honors, respectively, in District-1. Kirby is the girls’ winner, while Hall is the boy’s
winner in District-2. Reed is the girls’ recipient, and Moore is the boys’ recipient in District-3.
With a pair of wins Saturday, the North Judson-San Pierre Bluejays advanced to the Semi-State
for the first time since the 2004-2005 season. Senior wing Lilliann Frasure has been a huge part of their
success, and she had her full game on display over the weekend. In the morning contest, the Bluejays
knocked off a tough Andrean squad, 45-30. Frasure posted a double-double with 17 points and 15
rebounds, plus she handed out three assists.
In the Regional Championship against the Bluffton Tigers, Frasure and North Judson were in
sync, winning by a comfortable 65-34 margin. In this game, the 5-9 wing poured in a game-high 38 points,
singlehandedly outscoring the Tigers herself. An Indiana Wesleyan University commit, Frasure posted
another double-double with her 10 rebounds, and she snagged three steals as well. For her career, the
Senior has achieved the rare feat of surpassing 2000 points, 1000 rebounds, and 500 steals.
South Bend St. Joseph Senior J.R. Konieczny has done a number of great things throughout his
career, but in their first game of the week, a 64-40 win at Concord, the 6-7 wing became South Bend St.
Joseph’s all-time leading scorer after pouring in 37 points against the Minutemen. But that was just the
beginning of his strong week.
Friday evening, the Indians traveled to Mishawaka Marian for a huge rivalry game. Unfortunately
for Konieczny and St. Joe, they fell to the Knights at Marian, 66-60. However, the University of Notre
Dame commit was outstanding, scoring two-thirds of his team’s points with 40 in the effort. The very next
day, the Senior wing helped his Indians to a tough 58-52 win against NorthWood. Konieczny was again
solid in victory, scoring 18 more points, as St. Joseph moved to 13-4 on the season.
In their first Regional appearance since the 2013-2014 season, Tri-West Junior Kenna Kirby and
the Bruins earned their first trip to the Semi-State round since 1999. In the first game of the day, the Bruins
dispatched of Indian Creek, 72-51. Kirby played solidly, knocking down 7-11 shots from the field, including
a 3-pointer and three free throws, on her way to 18 points. The Junior guard also grabbed seven rebounds
and collected three steals in the opening contest.
Later that night, Tri-West won a hard-fought battle against Bishop Chatard, 72-60. It was in this
game that Kirby really starred. The 5-8 guard made 10-14 shots from the floor, but it was her hot 5-7 from
3-point range that stood out. She was also a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe, scoring 35 points in the
title tilt. Additionally, Kirby contributed five rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals in the big victory.
Senior forward Jesse Hall helped his Crawfordsville Athenians to a pair of nice Sagamore
Conference wins last week, as he was stellar in both games. In a Tuesday night matchup at North
Montgomery, the 6-8 forward scored 33 points, grabbed five rebounds, handed out a pair of assists, and
picked up four steals, as the Athenians won comfortably, 74-33.
On Friday evening, Crawfordsville hosted conference rival Tri-West. Behind another 34 points
from the electric Hall, the Athenians were able to move to a perfect 6-0 in the Sagamore Conference with
a 78-66 triumph. The Senior forward added five rebounds, four assists, and five blocked shots to the effort,
and he surpassed the 1000-point career mark as well during last week’s action. Hall and the Athenians
have a huge matchup this Friday at Danville, who is also 6-0 in the Sagamore Conference.
Greenwood Christian Senior Isabella Reed has been a double-double machine nearly her entire
career, so of course this past Saturday was no different. The Senior forward helped the Cougars to their
second consecutive Regional title and Semi-State appearance. In a 54-43 triumph over the Bloomfield
Cardinals, Reed was 6-8 from the field and 9-11 from the line for 21 points. She also grabbed 17
rebounds, with seven of them coming at the offensive end of the floor, plus she handed out five assists.
Later that evening, Reed helped the Cougars in a low-scoring, hard-fought affair against the
Southwestern (Shelbyville) Spartans, with Greenwood Christian coming out on top, 49-42. The 5-9 forward
scored a modest 13 points in the contest, but she did a nice job of finding teammates, racking up seven
assists in the win. The Indiana Wesleyan University commit also grabbed 11 more rebounds, with six big
ones coming at the offensive end of the floor. Reed has also eclipsed the 2000-point and 1000-rebound
career marks.
Evansville North Senior Chandler Moore had one of the best weeks of his career, helping the
Huskies to a pair of Southern Indiana Conference road wins last week. On Tuesday night, the Huskies
visited the Evansville Bosse Bulldogs, winning in impressive fashion, 83-68. The Senior guard was on
target all evening, making 13-21 shots from the field, including 5-8 from deep, as he scored a career-high
31 points in the success. The 6-4 Moore also posted a double-double with 11 big rebounds.
Saturday Evansville North traveled to Evansville Central, where they had to battle to the end,
escaping with a 63-59 win, moving the Huskies to 5-1 in the Southern Indiana Conference. Moore was
again in a groove, scoring 28 points, the second highest output of his career. The Senior was 10-18 from
the field, he made a pair of treys, plus he was 6-7 from the charity stripe. He also grabbed seven rebounds
and blocked a pair of shots in the victory.
