Buckeyes’ Keita Bates-Diop earns Player of the Week award; Spartans’ Jaren Jackson Jr. named Freshman of the Week

 

Player of the Week

Keita Bates-Diop, Ohio State

F – Jr. – 6-7 – Normal, Ill. – University High

• Averaged 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in wins vs. Michigan and William & Mary last week
• Scored a career high 27 points in the 97-62 win vs. William & Mary
• Shot 62 percent from the field (16-of-26) for the week, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range and 9-of-10 from the foul line
• Scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a win vs. Michigan which improved Ohio State to 2-0 in conference play
• Earns his first career Big Ten Player of the Week honor

Freshman of the Week

Jaren Jackson Jr., Michigan State

F – 6-11 – Carmel, Ind. – La Lumiere

• Averaged 14.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.5 blocks and 1.5 steals in wins at Rutgers and against Southern Utah last week
• Scored 11 points (all in the second half) against Rutgers and blocked eight shots to tie the Michigan State single-game record and set the freshman school record
• Scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds vs. Southern Utah to notch his fifth double-double of the season
• Shot 58.3 percent from the field last week (7-of-12) and added three steals
• Earns his second Freshman of the Week honor
