MUNCIE, Ind. — The Ball State football team’s pair of No. 9s received weekly honors from the Mid-American Conference after leading the Cardinals to a key league road win Saturday at Toledo.

Quarterback Drew Plitt was named the MAC West Division offensive player of the week and outside linebacker Christian Albright earned the division’s defensive honor for their efforts in the 27-24 victory, the Cardinals’ first at the Glass Bowl since 2012.

Plitt, a redshirt senior from Loveland, Ohio, threw for 304 yards and accounted for three total touchdowns the win. He had a hand in all three TDs for the Cardinals. Plitt opened the scoring with a touchdown run on the first possession of the game and later found Yo’Heinz Tyler for two scores as BSU built a 24-3 lead in the third quarter. He finished the game 26-of-35 through the air on the way to his second 300-yard passing game of the season. It is the fourth time in his career he has earned the weekly honor.

Albright, a senior from Kennesaw, Georgia, registered 3.0 tackles for loss, including 2.0 sacks, to go along with a forced fumble and the game-clinching fumble recovery. He had seven total tackles, keying a BSU defense that shut out Toledo through the first 29:28 and limited the Rockets to 42 rushing yards, 179 below their average. Albright had a quarter of the Cardinals’ 12 tackles for loss, their most in a league game since 2006, including a strip-sack. He recovered a fumble forced by teammate Anthony Ekpe to end Toledo’s comeback effort.

This week’s selections mark the second time in three weeks Ball State has won both the MAC West’s offensive and defensive honors. Running back Caleb Huntley (offense) and inside linebacker Brandon Martin (defense) were recognized after BSU’s win over Eastern Michigan.

Ball State travels to face Central Michigan at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in a matchup of 3-1 teams with championship aspirations. The game will be televised on ESPNU and can be heard on the Ball State Radio Network on 104.1 WLBC.
