Wildcats Pace Four in Double Figures in Win

The Gainbridge Fieldhouse staff had to check the backboard glass after Northwestern and Minnesota played here Thursday night in a B1G Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The Wildcats and the Golden Gophers combined to shoot 47-125 from the field (37.6%). Both teams also shot sub 60% from the free throw line however, Northwestern hit ten more freebies than Minnesota did – and in a five-point game, that was huge. Fourteen turnovers also contributed to the season ending loss for Minnesota.
Northwestern won 65-60, reversing the outcome of a couple of weeks ago when the Golden Gophers beat Northwestern at the Barn in Bloomington, Minnesota. Minnesota won 74-68 February 11th.

Wildcat Senior guard Veronica Burton was the catalyst for the victors with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists.
Four Wildcats scored in double figures. Lauryn Satterwhite added 15 points and 7 boards, while Jillian Brown – a freshman guard – contributed 11 points and 9 rebounds. Courtney Shaw had a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Minnesota had three players perform well. Sharpshooter Sara Scalia had 18 points and 7 rebounds but had her 3-point attempt from the corner blocked near the end when her trailed by 3. A Northwestern player was fouled and hit both free throws to give the final margin.

Kadi Sissoko used her length and athleticism to also have 18 points and had her own double double with 10 rebounds. Guard Deja Winters contributed 10 points.

The game went back and forth with both teams making significant runs. The last of those runs belonged to the Wildcats though.
Minnesota finishes the season 14-17. Northwestern (17-11) advances to play #2 Seed Iowa Friday evening in a rubber match – each team won on the others home court this season.
