Defensive lineman becomes the 16th member of the 2021 class

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – Penn State Football announced the addition of defensive lineman Davon Townley Jr. (Minneapolis, Minn.) to the 2021 signing class on Wednesday.

High School: Played for head coach Charles Adams at North Community High School in Minneapolis…Two-time team captain…Was a 2AA All-Conference selection…Had a shortened season as a senior, helping team to a 5-1 record…Tallied 42 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and ten pass breakups as a senior…Also made five receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns on offense…First year of high school football was his junior year…Rated the No. 3 recruit in Minnesota, the No. 19 strong side defensive end and the No. 321 prospect nationally by 247Sports…Is ranked the No. 3 player in the state, the No. 39 defensive end and No. 35 overall player in the region by ESPN…Tabbed the No. 2 player in the state and No. 11 player at his position by Rivals…Impressive basketball player as well, averaging 17.5 points and 9.4 rebounds as a junior.

Townley becomes the 16th student-athlete to sign a National Letter of Intent with the Nittany Lions. Penn State welcomed 15 student-athletes on National Signing Day on Dec. 17, 2020. Seven of the signees are early enrollees – Nate Bruce, Jeffrey Davis Jr., Kalen King, Kobe King, Rodney McGraw, Landon Tengwall and Christian Veilleux.

With the addition of Townley, the Nittany Lions signed nine recruits that were rated four stars or higher by 247Sports, ESPN or Rivals.

Penn State again found success in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions as six of the signees came from within a 200-mile radius of State College. The Nittany Lions’ class features players from nine different states and provinces, with four coming from Pennsylvania and Michigan, two from Maryland, and one form Alabama, Connecticut, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio and Ontario.

The Class of 2021 features eight defensive signees, seven offensive signee and one specialist.
